The more games Keith loses the more desperate and bizarre his team selections will become, what puzzles me is he built an identity last season as a team that plays direct football but can also play a bit if necessary e.g. Burton FA cup and the play offs.
After being thrown under the bus by Thomas in terms of budget, we lost all our best players ,nearly all of them could have been kept with the exemption of Goode and Morton, we replaced them with youth teamers, U23 prem kids and bang average L2 players, now all of a sudden Keith has realised that Smith can’t hold the ball up like Oliver did and has now tried to play football on the ground, the result is we are getting pumped every week.
We need to play our best players, Adams and Marshall then get the ball into the box like we used to.
With the likes of Hoskins in the team week in week out we are doomed.

That's all very well in playing A and M old boy, but KC never did except as a sub! Plus Smith is only firing on 3 cylinders and is not as effective as holding/building up the ball. I know you only run on a two stroke (engine) but we need a goal scoring striker like Rudy Gestede, might be useful; Shoeys one and only good shout.

Your up late Evers old boy, can’t sleep? I recommend a good single malt to get you off to sleep.

Spoken to a Pompey mate who watched the game and consensus from him and his mates were that they were lucky to take the lead, we were the better team first half and should have been ahead. Watson and Smith were our best players. Score line flattered them and Kenny Jackett has said the same.
We nearly always play better in the first half of games than we do in the second. This has been going on for more than a year, with the odd exception.

It's not much use turning up for half a game, is it? There's no points to be won for that.

This is very true, we’d play well in the first half and in league two score a goal or two, then in the second half it would be like a different team coming out and we would be left hanging on and make the opposition look like Brazil.
Has to be fitness.

It is odd they are not in the team, especially Marshall as he looks heck of a player, KC needs to sort out the defence urgently, hopefully Sheehan can clam them down a but and put a wise arm around them. I like the new keeper although I wish he wouldn't rush to get the ball out all the time as the control of some of the players is a tad questionable.

Willing to admit now that the defence doesn't look as good as last season which considering for the most part of last season I thought was bang average is very worrying. I do think the other players could tur out to be an improvement but KC needs to work out his best team and stick to it, then they can gel, we have the return of the tinkerer at the moment.

I still think we will survive as I am convinced KC saves his best players for the games against the teams we will be battling relegation against.

Might be just me, but has anyone else noticed that KC is referring to "nullifying the opposition strengths" more and more? Reminds me of JFH regime with each passing week.

We'll be having all ten outfield players defending corners when we are already four down before you know it!

I want to hear KC say we are IMPOSING our style of play on the opposition more, instead of the continual 'nullifying' emphasis!

Nothing wrong with nullifying the opposition, surely thats part of the game. Trouble is, we're not very good at nullifying  Grin

Agreed, but when that's your first thought, and you comment as such, surely that sends out a negative message?

In his defence he does say when interviewed he wants to win games of football. Probably best tell the team rather than the media

You have to nullify the opposition before imposing your own game. I believe that is his thinking.

How can you nullify someone without also imposing yourself?
I'm confused, I thought you just had to be better than the opposition.

Actually old boy was posted well before 0.55hrs so can't really explain why message was timed at 0.55hrs. Have noticed this before as yesterday somebody posted a message 19.27hrs and a glance at my Panerai radio controlled infallible watch signed by Mae West showed it was actually 19.25hrs. These missing minutes really bug me...... Single Malt, will only sip The Glenlivet 25 Year Malt 8. So which tipple do you prefer?

The thing about 'nullify' its basically a legal term:

make legally null and void; invalidate.
"it is at the discretion of the court to nullify the decision"

Similar:
annul
declare null and void
 example:
"insulin can block the release of the hormone and thereby nullify the effects of training"

Is generally used by lawyers or high status professions

It perhaps doesn't really apply to Football terminology?  Spent a few minutes trying to incorporate nullify within a football scenario without any meaningful result. Most fell apart due to some potential confusion creeping in.

Read 442 : https://www.fourfourtwo.com/performance/tactics/nullify-threat-attacking-full-back

Pearce clearly believes in Zonal Marking and he maybe right.
