Perhaps because I’ve been a fan since the early 60s, I’m feeling quite relaxed about this season. We’ve had 10 promotions in my time watching the Cobblers, and apart from 65/66 this is the only time we are expected to be relegated the following season. We lost 5 of our last 7 games last season before the pandemic helped us to go up, along with our wonderful victories at Cheltenham and Wembley. Though we yearn for Goode, Oliver and Morton to still be here, apart from those two latter games they were part of a pretty average L2 side. What I really miss is the identity of the teams nowadays. Even in the Crerand season when we last spent just one term in a higher league, there was Starling, Stratford, Best, Robertson, Gregory to enthuse over. Great characters we loved. Nowadays I look on, desperate to care about the players . It must be because they are here today, gone tomorrow. We know that it’s just another station on the line for most. So I look on this season as a free hit. I’d rather be struggling to stay in L1 rather than struggling to get out of L2. These so-called big clubs look fairly ordinary to me. Nothing to fear but fear itself....

I’m glad I read this before posting anything about our current predicament. I’m inclined to agree with you Sloane.

Agreed, I thought the team last year were very average with a few players that came good at the end
