Phew, made hard work of that. Great 1st half and better going forward. Should have been more convincing. They made me cash out on my Accum early!

Good win, but made it harder than it shoud have been. Watson and Hoskins had good games and Smith at least held the ball up well. A more aggressive centre forward would have bagged at least 2 goals today though Wigan were better second half, but both their goals were poor defending again. Ths must be addressed if we are going to avoid a relegation battle this season.

Will need to be tighter at the back Tuesday but that will have given us some confidence. Still a need to be more clinical

Need to continue it on to Milton Keynes - take another 3 points and we'll be feeling a little bit more secure.
One thing I did not expect at the start of this season is that the majority of our goals would come from players dribbing into the box, and that the majority we've conceded would come from set pieces and crosses in - we're weak where we were stong last year, and maybe vise versa.

To be fair they had 7 first teamers out ......but , nonetheless, our first ever points at the JJB/DW Stadium.

We're doing ok in our 'mini league'.
In fact, you could make the case that this has been a reasonable start to a tough league, with only the failure to draw the games against Plymouth, Bristol and possibly Charlton as real black marks.
Sheehan has brought a bit of calmness and composure and Curle seems to have arrived at his first choice back three at last. What he needs to do now is firm up his best choices elsewhere on the field.
I like Chucks a lot. His finish showed a composure beyond his years and he showed some decent touches and skills. Once he learns when and where to make runs into the box we could have a real prospect on our hands.

Yes, I agree bungle. Maybe Nuttall's injury is a blessing in disguise now we have the emergence of Chukwuemeka.

Boy we made hard work of that!
Wigan were ok going forward but had one of the worst defences I have seen at this level.
Smith would have had 4 or 5 headers on target if he physically attacked the crosses more.
More of our players in the team today were prepared to take a touch on the ball and gave us degree of control.

S.McW, Pollock, Benny for a start. Personally I thought that Wigan 2nd half played very well; we just about deserved to win. We clearzly miss more up front and midfield

We need to get the 4 M's back in the team. Marshall should start as should Missilou, McWilliams and Mills as soon as the're fit. Not convinced by Smith, Chuka looks a better bet to get you goals. I'd like to see Chuka partner Rose up front, Korboa just behind.
No way is Curle choosing his best XI yet, we got lucky today against a weak Wigan side, they will need to up their game to get anything out of MK on Tuesday.

No way is Curle choosing his best XI
Agreed to some extent. However, I'm not sure there is a fan consensus either. I also think there is a case for a 'horses for courses' approach in this division. For instance, given Wigan threadbare state it probably made sense to go with a more attacking midfield today and prefer Watson over Missilou. I also think it made sense to select Smith as a relatively experienced centre forward to bully their inexperienced centre backs and to then bring Chucks on when the game got more stretched. The first half performance suggests that Curle got the starting X1 right. However, a case could be made for Missilou coming on for Watson once Wigan appeared to be gaining control of the middle. The following are 'must starters' at the moment IMHO given what we've got in the squad: Bolger, Horsfall, Sheehan, Harriman (our best defensive wing-back by a country mile), Sowerby. Of course, Curle would add Hoskins to this list and his contribution of a goal and assist today (allied to his usual busy pressing) make it hard to argue with that. Adams probably gets in as the other wing-back due to the undoubted quality of his delivery, but as with last season it's taking him a bit of time to get up to speed (probably because he didn't have a pre-season). I'm not sure he's got an assist yet aside from the Missilou one, but hopefully we'll find our rhythm in terms of crossing and set pieces before too long. Like most I would like to see more of Marshall, but I think he offers a lot as an impact sub against tiring defences - he just needs a bit more time to do his thing. Aside from that, I would say Curle is probably going to continue with a 'horses for courses'/competition for places approach. I agree with you that a Chucks and Rose partnership would be interesting to look at. Chucks needs to learn to press a bit more effectively and to bust a gut into the box, but there is a lot of potential there.

I'm really surprised at the harsh comments towards Smith on here tonight, I thought he had a fantastic game for once!
He won virtually every header, held the ball up, invited fouls, and his flick-ons were very accurate and regularly found Rose and then later Chukwuemeka.
The only thing he could have improved on in this game was finding half a yard of space to be available for a header in the box, but the two Wigan centre backs (especially Emeka Obi) were all over him and had clearly been instructed to be on him like a rash.
I thought he had a very encouraging game and it was miles, miles better than his other performances so far this season - which had been very poor.
I'm far more concerned with Curle not doing anything about the team retreating further and further back once in the league - perhaps it is more accurate to say that he is encouraging it! I thought going to 6 at the back with 4 cb's was an outstandingly negative move, whether it sealed the win or not. How many other managers in the league would have done that, and what message does it send to the team?

Harriman (our best defensive wing-back by a country mile) Sorry but I really can't agree here. I think he has been poor of late. He keeps giving the opposition wingers far too much space to cross the ball, and when the winger fakes the cross and takes him on he gets very flat-footed - as seen by him giving the penalty away today, which was lazy and was a poor decision in the moment. Mills clearly the better defensive wing-back. Mills and Adams, with Marshall replacing Adams around 60-70 mins, would be what I would go with.
