I will happily have the shirt, carry the banner, have the badge, speak out, but I will get on my knees for no one.

Likewise, as long as it's without the BLM banner/badge, unfortunately this is being called racist by some... Roll Eyes

I would suggest that taking the knee has morphed into a general support of anti-racism. Rather than bicker or complain about the organisations associated, it's the overarching sentiment that important.

The fact that its conflated with an organization that lobbies for questionable policies is in its self troublesome.

It gives weight to silly arguments like defund the police

That's quite a dangerous precedent. Where does this end? Does showing dissent for something mean you now get automatically labelled as whatever the opposing party say you are?

I don't like where the world is going at the moment. It's very much a case of "you are either with me or against me" and as a result everything is binary; there is no longer any room for nuance, mitigation or context, it seems.

It would be interesting if the whole crowd at their next game (when allowed to attend) booed in support of those banned, to see where they went then?

I have often booed Uriah Heap in the past specifically because of colour, he's always showing us red!

As someone who identifies as lgbtqia
I have been wondering what symbol players could make in support of our community.
I would like to see all our players either go down on both knees or just bend over. What they do with their fists is up to personal choice...

I believe there are certain specialist websites available with content to suggest a conclusion regarding the fist.

Looks like players are going to continue taking the knee this season.

At the recent friendly between Brentford and West Ham, West Ham grovelled and Brentford stood, was very awkward as the commentator announced and now the teams will now show their....oh, and only West Ham performed.

Since then it's been announced all teams will be following this charade, Brentford obviously leaned on by Sky, The Prem and Gary Lineker.

While we're on about abuse, terrible hearing about Jack Grealishs' walking promotion of a girlfriend receiving 200 death threats a day by 14 year olds Grin via social media.  Huh?  Turn it off love, x

I think the most effective statement they could make before the game would be to bury their fucking phones in the semi circle.

Blimey. I think “taking the knee” is just a gesture to show solidarity with all anti racist views, not with the black lives matter movement, who adopted it after Colin Kaepernick’s protest in 2016. No charade and not grovelling or anything to do with Gary Lineker Huh?. I respect Ivan Toney’s choice to stand the same as I respect anyone’s choice to “take the knee”.
Not sure what you’re on about in the hi lighted section, not seen the story, but any form of bullying or abuse is unacceptable and I don’t think players take their phones on the pitch with them.

Brentford stood last season, they stood just a week ago.

How is a forced upon gesture supposed to tackle racism?

Not a forced upon gesture at all, simply freedom of choice of the individual, supported by the premier league. Ivan Toney has already said he still intends to stand as has Wilfred Zaha and I'm sure some others will too.
Nothing wrong with making any sort of gesture that supports anti racist views or any sort of discrimination. If you don't want to do it, fine, but people shouldn't be criticised if they do. It's a simple gesture of unity.

Taking the knee is a political statement in support of BLM. I am all for supporting the fight against racism but not by this method. If the Cobblers do it I will be looking away. It really is time to stop it.

Taking the knee is a political statement in support of BLM.

You can perceive it that way but that doesn’t make it true. The gesture was started by someone wanting to use their high profile position to make a stance against racial injustice not in support of an organisation. While the two have been linked at times, which is more likely to do with a catchy slogan than any political agenda, which is different from country to country. Sportsman as far as I’m aware state the gesture has no political agenda to them and it is in-line with its conception as people using a high profile position to make a stance against continued racial injustice.

Well they didn't take the knee so I hope that's the end of it. It was happy with the announcement just before ko, not that I could hear it properly, and that should suffice in my view.
