There are always turning points year on year but our club seems to have missed most opportunities in the last 50 years!

!) On our climb to Division 1 we got no backing to build a new stadium in Weston Favell from the Council while other authorities have.

2) The board did not invest in Franny, Lee, Colin Bell and Alex Stepney as recommended (all future England internationals).

3) When we had a quality local striking prospect in Paul Stratford, and a deal was set up with Arsenal a tragic knee injury finishes his career.

4) When a local fan is prepared to invest in the club, Max Griggs, he is frustrated by the other Board members and he invests in a 'White Elephant' in the middle of nowhere (Irthlingborough).

5) Adcock and Barnes given away to the Boro'.

6) Again NBC has no vision and refuses Ikea planning permission at J15, so no enabling funds to build an adequate Sixfields.

7) Some of the largest sport sponsors have local H.O's but we have failed to negotiate a collective package to benefit NTFC. Carlsberg (Liverpool), Nationwide B/S (England), Weetabix (Ladies Open golf) and Travis Perkins (Saints).

8- DC had the land opportunities to benefit NTFC and himself but messed up listening to others!

9) Another local striker sold on the cheap, Ivan Toney, for short term cash.

10) KT, year on year he has 'talked the talk BUT has failed to walk the walk'! (include NBC as well).

My memory might have blurred some items or missed others, so any more suggestions?

Not our mistake, but the FA for allowing franchise FC  to set up in MK.

Must have cost a few thousand quid in lost revenue from casual football supporters, and potentially life time fans...

Any follower of the plastic dongs is no football supporter. Don’t want that type at our club anyway thank you very much?

Not a real supporter but unelected chair of the Northampton Town Honorary Supporters Club. (Please note: any opinions given may not necessarily be shared by proper supporters. In incidents of conflict the views of real supporters shall take precedence).

Never any suggestion or requirement for IKEA to fund a ground. No planning reason. MK always had a stadium/shopping area planned.

6) - Absolutely nothing to do ith NBC. That was a decsion by South Northants Council
7) Take a look at the sports teams that those firms have chosen to sponsor. They aim higher than Divison 4. No amount of negoiating would have convinced Carlsberg to sponsor NTFC over Liverpool.

Stadium opportunities at Barrack Rd, Delapre and Brackmills.
Knocking main stand down at County Ground too early and just before Carr’s all conquering heroes.

With the benefit of hindsight, but that really proves a truth. Live now, don't allow any room for 'what if'.

Building a new football stadium in 1994 was a brave move as football was in the doldrums at the time. If it had been 10 years later with the money pouring into football it would have been a lot bigger.

The other proposals were 25000 at Brackmills and 35000 on Barrack Rd.
Your right it was a brave move and one that saved us at the time. Choice of location and the amount spent clearing the site wasn’t probably the smartest move though.

Lord Heseltine was involved when Barrack Rd was being looked at in 1977.

Really? I worked for him for a few years soon after that, and I'm fairly sure football never once came up in conversation.

Not entirely true number 6!

South Northants Council was handling the planning application and there was opposition to the store from the Borough Council. In the end it was a combination of SNC, NBC, NCC and local residents who put paid to it.....all had a part to play.

The Borough Council objected on the basis that it would take trade away from the Town Centre..... The County Council objected due to the traffic issues, and SNC objected due to pressure from the locals and the parish council at the time.

Seeing as the plans for Ikea were 9 years AFTER Sixfields was built, i'm not sure why the OP thinks they had anything to do with enabling funds?
