Next game is another trip to the fair city of Oxford, this time we face United, managed of course by the lovable Karl Robinson.

They are in a poor run of form, no wins (in normal time) in 6 games in all competitions, though they did record a penalty shootout victory over Forest Green in the PJ Trophy. Last time out they went to Blackpool and gained a point in a 0-0 draw, their third league draw on the bounce. Only two home league wins so far, against MK Dons and Rochdale, whilst they have tasted defeat at home against Sunderland, Crewe and Swindon.

Matty Taylor leads the scoring charts with five league goals, fellow forward James Henry weighs in with three. Oxford sit one place and two points below us with a game in hand.

34 previous games between the two teams, we hold the upper hand with 16 wins to 14 with only 4 draws from those 34 games. We have won our last 4 games at the Kassam, 6 wins and one draw overall in the 12 games since they moved from the Manor Ground.

Declan Bourne is scheduled to be the referee for the game, another first year EFL ref, he's taken charge of 13 games this season and has handed out 44 yellow and one red card, booking at least two players in every game he has refereed. Needless to say its our first encounter with him.

We're going to be struggling for a team in this match, or a defence at any rate. It's time for the forwards to take control.

Sheehan and Racic both out injured along with Mills? Bolger and Martin are both suspended as is McWilliams. That leaves Harriman, Horsfall and Dyche, with Flanagan making the bench?

Is Racic actually injured? None of the reporters actually bother to ask as per usual!  Roll Eyes

It was mentioned today on one of the FB threads, first I’d heard to be honest. Last league game Curle went in with no defenders on the bench, today he goes with Dyche. I don’t know what that says about what Curle thinks about Racic if he isn’t injured!!

Sheehan will probably be fit as Radio N'ton said he was close to being available yesterday.
The appointed referee is maybe a good omen as in his 13 games this season only 2 have resulted in home wins with 8 away wins, let's hope he is not swayed by fans returning to the kassam.

I'm not sure that I would say Oxford are "in a poor run of form" as they have only lost 1 of their last 6 league games ( at home against Swindon), they won at Wigan and have 4 draws, Away to Portsmouth and Blackpool and at home to Ipswich and Hull. I think we would be happy with a point from those fixtures.
Oxford's form to date is very similar to ours, having played a game less they are 2 points behind us. Both teams have failed to score in 8 games and both only have 2 clean sheets. Both teams have only managed to score 2 goals or more in a game 4 times but we have conceded 2 or more 10 games and Oxford 9. In recent games they appear to have tightened up at the back at the expense of scoring at the other end.
Our record away to Oxford is rather strange as we lost all of the first 7 games but have won the last 4, overall we have 6 wins, Oxford 11 wins and only 1 draw.

Sorry but it’s at Oxford...
As for scorers anyone who has a shot on target I’d guess given that we won’t have a defence.

Who knows we might actually attack as we can’t play a defensive game with no defence
If so

4-1

I would imagine the defence will be fine with none of our defenders available for selection.

Both teams wearing the 'Justice for Harry' ribbons tonight.
Given the location of Croughton AFB as well, nice touch from Oxford United and the Cobblers!

Going 3-0 Poxford.
I think we'll get a player sent off.
Going for 24% possession today.

I think this is the game in which we may get up to 27% possession.
