What a great thread, lots of different views and opinions as ever? However, even though some of the opinions are different to mine, doesn’t it make you view the individuals expressing them with a new found respect? Note to self the next time we are all kicking lumps out of each other when things go pear shaped?

Thank you very much for your constructive comment It was only after receiving a stern rebuke from Admin who also mentioned your first name did I cotton on to who you are. Considering you have always been considerate and friendly; I find my remarks churlish in the extreme. Please accept my apologies for the post which clearly lacked appreciation, respect and lack of common humanity towards a fellow fan. Considering we are acquaintances and on nodding terms makes my post extremely galling and ill mannered. Suffice to say that when we next meet assuredly at an away fixture in the neat future will confirm my apologies in person.

So it's only "churlish" and "galling and ill mannered" because you've realised you know him? Does that mean it's fine if you don't?

So it's only "churlish" and "galling and ill mannered" because you've realised you know him? Does that mean it's fine if you don't? That sums up the internet. People on any thread you can read anywhere (news feeds) are full of everything from full on abuse to sarcastic personal responses, none of which would be said to either someone you know, or someone you don't face to face. Reasoned debate doesn't really exist anymore. I would hope that at least on here at the moment we could have some togetherness and empathy. I am sure each of us is struggling in some element of our life, whether than is financially or emotionally via personal suffering, loss, loneliness etc.... ...plus we have the common shared emotion of following a football team who is making everything worse

As someone who grew up in a family of egg chasers I came late to the Cobblers, I had only seen the odd game before becoming a regular follower in 1976. I then had a decade of mediocrity but savoured every victory of my division four favourites, I accepted that this was my lot in the world of football. Then, along came Graham Carr! What was this? Direct attacking football, goals galore and a feature on Saint and Greavsie! Who else remembers singing 'we're gunna score in a minute' before the kickoff! This is still the Cobblers right? After dropping back into the mire we had the Atkins great over achievers, three seasons near the top of the league with CC, a false alarm with Boothroyd and lived the dream with Wilder and Knill.
Mixed in with the good times was plenty of dross but at least we always seemed to have heroes, that's what this current team lacks, there are no heroes! We all have our own favourites, I loved Benji but Morley and Hill ran him close. When Bayo came on and scored at Swindon we knew another hero had arrived, there was Smudger's footballing genius, we'll never forget Abdul at Anfield and of course Rico, JJOT and Ricky warmed our cockles. I'll even add the now much derided Steve Phillips who scored the first Cobblers goal I saw live (1-1 against PNE I think) as I watched from the duckboards in the mid seventies.
Where are our heroes now? Has Covid taken away the link we used to feel with our boys? Or are they just not good enough? I agree we are not good to watch and so people may question what they spend their money on. In my time we have rarely been pretty to watch and usually playing in division 4 but unless Elon Musk suddenly discovers family links to Duston that is our lot.
Things are pretty grim at the moment but I will renew my season ticket again and hope for better days when we can crowd into the grounds again and hug each other in celebration for moments of joy provide by a new set of heroes.
I love this post

2021 marks my 60th year of being a NTFC fan, I've been a STH for well over half of those 60 years. This is not the worst Cobblers team I've seen, BUT, it is the least entertaining team. The post administration teams of Phil Chard/John Barnwell obviously lacked good players but they all gave it 100% and did try to play football. This season I log on with a little bit of hope, wait until the team is announced to see if Sheehan is playing, if he is we have a chance, if not I might as well go back to watching Jeff Stelling, at least that's entertaining. But even if Sheehan is playing and we look like we might get a point or 3, the last half hour of the games are painful, you just know we will sit back and get battered, just hoping the opposition are not good enough to finish their chances and we get lucky somehow. You just sit there thinking "they are going to score in a minute" and unfortunately, they usually do. I don't buy this "We only have a small budget so we cant expect decent football", last weekend I watched Chorley and Marine play some decent football against better opposition then we normally face and earlier this season, Oxford City played us off the park. All three of these clubs would have a fraction of our budget. We also have the likes of Rochdale and Accrington in our division who play great football on a much smaller budget than ours. Which brings me on to the big question, do I renew my ST for next season? I'll be honest, the ifollow has been better than I thought it would be, apart from the odd game. Paying for a ST but only getting the same as someone who spends less on ifollow ? I can handle this as I have a decent pension and NTFC has been a really big part of my life for 60 years I was at the Exeter Rooms meeting, I've sponsored players and I was involved with all the meetings with NBC before KT bought the club and, if I didn't renew, I would think I have let NTFC down, because if I don't renew there will be lots of people with less commitment not renewing, and that puts the future of NTFC in jeopardy. So do I just carry on with the "blind loyalty" ? With the lockdown as it is, football should be one of the things to look forward to, but it's very difficult to look forward to any NTFC game at the moment. I've thought long and hard about this, but as it stands, we will get relegated playing this non football on a pitch deliberately churned up and it's killing my love of NTFC and I doubt that I'm the only one. I know NTFC read this forum so I would be interested to hear what KT REALLY thinks about the "entertainment" on offer because he's the one it will effect at the end of the season.
One of the best postings on here for a long long time, 40 yrs season ticket holder, but..........who knows for now.

+1
KC is not to blame for the lack of entertainment. He was employed to knock the team into shape with a short-term goal of promotion. Well done KC for the achievement.
KT is responsible for the long-term goals (when will we see another goal!!). He knew KC plays direct football. He allowed him to train on and ruin the pitch. He allowed him to narrow the pitch.. He allows the appauling football to be served up to supporters!
One question Mr Thomas; Would you pay out your hard earned cash for another season of this dire 'entertainment'?
You obviously have some strong POV on KC and possibly on KT! Your second para is interesting but wonder how much you have considered the circumstances which affect KC on field tactics even overall strategy? He lost the spine of his team pre season plus an early raft of injuries .Also the pandemic has effected the Clubs attitude to meaningful activity in the summer transfer market. As a supporter I can’t fault all the Clubs pandemic activity as it seems prudent to me! What do you mean by long term goals? I agree on your comments on the state of the pitch; please consider putting this direct to KT? Should be interesting! The pitch has been narrowed - unaware of this and possibly not common knowledge. Can you point me to the link or source of information? Good luck in contacting KT on the pitch as this appears to be a worthwhile investigative exercise.

Watch the games on iFollow the old lines have been faintly visible and I noticed this at the Lincoln game.

I have never understood why there is a variance in size allowed with regards to pitches so I looked it up? Anyway as a result I found this which was quite interesting and some of the reasoning could be applied to us? Sorry for the long winded post but I have chopped this out of the article. As an example you can look at Tony Pulis. The man who seems to have a baseball cap surgically attached to his head is known for playing a long-ball style of football. During his time as manager of Stoke City Pulis demanded that the pitch meet the minimum possible dimensions. This allowed his long-ball style to be played more effectively and it created an opportunity for the club’s long-throw specialist Rory Delap to more accurately find his targets. Another famous example of a pitch’s dimensions being used to the home team’s advantage came in 1987 when Graeme Souness was the manager of Rangers. His scouting of the club’s European Cup opponents Dynamo Kiev had revealed that the Ukrainian team played with very dangerous wingers who liked to hug the touchline. On the eve of the game Souness gave his groundskeepers an instruction that they should change the pitch around. Souness: “The pitch didn’t have to be a fixed width as long as it was above a certain minimum, so I thought: ‘Right, I’ll make it the absolute minimum’. On the Tuesday afternoon the Kiev players trained on the pitch when it was the normal size. On Wednesday night they came out for the match and must have been shocked to discover that, after 15 paces, they were on the touchline … it wasn’t purist stuff, but it was within the rules”. Teams that choose to defend with a ‘low block’ benefit from being on a pitch with smaller dimensions. The smaller the pitch is the less chance the attacking side has to move the ball around and pull the defending team out of position. Tottenham’s manager Mauricio Pochettino certainly believed as much when he blamed the size of the White Hart Lane pitch on his side’s loss to Newcastle in 2014. He said, “Our style means we need a bigger space to play because we play a positional game. It’s true that White Hart Lane is a little bit tight and it’s better for the opponent when they play deep”. Full article here. https://www.football-stadiums.co.uk/articles/are-all-football-pitches-the-same-size/Incidentally, it gives our dimensions as 106m x 65m. Relatively one the longest and also narrowest? Better get fit when playing Shrewsbury?

This is very interesting but you don't actually explain why there isn't a standard pitch size, but rather how clubs exploit the current rules. Not having a single standard size seems to give an unfair advantage to the home side. I think it might be nice if NTFC were forced to use out-and-out wingers. Marshall and Roberts could be decent - or certainly worth a try at least.

No, I didn’t actually find out the answer and then went off on a tangent with the other stuff. Then I completely forgot about what I was looking for in the first place, sorry.

There's probably not a standard pitch size because the old grounds were developed before that idea was first raised. Once in use and of various size according to what was surrounding them, how could the FA or whatever authority then try and standardize pitch size? Only possible by making the smallest pitch played on the standard, which would have met with considerable opposition by those playing clubs on larger pitches I would have thought?

I’m not having that CJ? When football was first invented back in the day and they put together the rules such as number of players, handball, VAR etc you would have thought it was first on the list? In those days there was probably a cow shed and that was about it, so it can’t be that surely?
