Yes. I'm going to bring it back up!
Gary Johnson says we need 11 wins from the last 13 matches to get into the play-offs... is this
at all possible?
No, it's not.
The board is bored and it feels as though the whole club and support are also in a state of shock. Even some of the main posters have gone off sulking, or 'having a break'. I know that this site is rife with reactionary posting but I've never seen such a dramatic swing in feeling. There is the expected minority of idiots already hurling abuse directly at Johnson, from a safe distance. There are the Sammo die hards who are still licking their wounds, probably with an mild underlying feeling of smugness, a bit like Sammo himself must be feeling now. Then there are the Johnson fan boys who don't quite know what to make of the current situation. Meanwhile Johnson goes to west London to watch more potential fresh blood for the weekend.
The view from the fence has been quite confusing. I always said that Sammo should have seen the end of the season out as a minimum but at the same time was very pleased to have appointed somone with such an impressive CV as an immediate replacement.
I can understand his desire to pull up trees, "throw some grenades" and get us motoring in the right direction. However, Johnson is not stupid (and hopefully not too stubborn) and he must know that it is no longer the time or place to continue experimenting with untried formations/players.
If GJ wasn't sure of the magnitude of the task then he certainly must be by now. The squad Sammo left may not be the world beaters that some people thought he had but they are more than capable of competing in this league.
ONE WIN, that is all we need to turn the corner. I can see it being Saturday. It is a game that most people will be writing off as another loss after Bradford have notched up back to back wins.
However, if we don't stop the rot and GJ has gone in and rocked the boat too hard too soon then we could be relying on other results until the end of the season to ensure we don't get dragged down. If the unthinkable did happen then it can only be attributable to poor management and I dread to think of the strength of feeling towards DC and GJ. It would certainly be approaching mild anger.
I would never wish my life away but I wish we could fast forward a few weeks to get out of this sorry mess. Not that we haven't been a sorry mess for most of eternity but I can't stand the prospect of non league football, with little chance of returning anytime soon.
