Remember him well damn good inside fwd as they were known in those days. Nearest in ability was Freddie Ramscar and maybe Joe Kiernan who was a half back. Perhaps Graham Moore too! We seemed to have had some very good players in those days. Cheerio Alan and thanks for the memories....RIP.

He scored a hat trick in my first ever game. One of my first Cobblers heroes.

Alan Woan had a superb spell at the Cobblers covering 4 seasons in my earliest time following the Cobblers. An early hero of mine.
How we could do with similar player now with a goals to games record up there with the best.68 goals in all. This was typically evidenced in the 58/59 season with 32 goals in 42 games. Will we ever see anyone come close to that level of potency ?
The former Norwich inside left ( Number10) as we used to line -up, was eventually involved in an exchange deal with Mike Deakin and moved on to Crystal Palace, in the 59/60 season......who would realise this was the start of the most exciting time in the history of the Cobblers.

Yes, and the following 6 seasons got me hooked and now I'm suffering!

Mike Deakin - when he moved to us there was was a lot of angst expressed by Palace Supporters. He did ok for us but he returned to Palace within 12 months. No where near as good as Holton, not many where!

+1, Totally agree with this.Just loved it when Alan Woan was in the team, lost count of the number of times the Green' Un headlines were "Alan Woan does it again" - great memories.
