Next up we face the first part of a double header against other relegation threatened teams...lets hope it works out better than the last double header!!

Rochdale are the visitors to the PTS tomorrow night.....Rochdale are four places above us, but only two points in front of us, so a win for the Cobblers will see us leapfrog them in the table.

They have the 14th best away record in the league, of their 6 league wins so far this season five of them have come away from home. Wins at other struggling teams such as Burton, Shrewsbury, Wigan and Bristol Rovers plus a win at Plymouth. They have also had cup wins at Huddersfield and Morecambe on the road so they're no mugs. Twenty four goals scored in their away games means they have scored more than we have home AND away combined, they have also conceded 24 on their travels too.

After a goalscoring glut a few weeks back things have tightened up at both ends, they've only scored one goal in their last four games, but they come off the back of a 1-0 defeat at Blackpool and a goalless draw at home to Plymouth on Saturday. Overall just one win in their last 12 games has meant they've been unable to escape the lower reaches of the table despite their previously impressive scoring record, 41 goals scored in the League.

Matty Lund (who has always impressed me as a player) is their top scorer with 12 goals although he has also picked up 10 yellow cards in all competitions too, Stephen Humphrys is behind him in the scoring charts with 8, and Alex Newby who was prolific for Chorley weighs in with 7 for Rochdale this term.

January transfer business was thin on the ground, though they did pick up two Conor's....Shaughnessy and Grant from Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Our last meeting back in November saw us share the spoils in a 1-1 draw, Harry Smith gave us a first half lead only for the aforementioned Humphrys to pop up with an equaliser five minutes from time. Overall, as befits a couple of regulars in the lower leagues we have an extensive head to head, a total of 64 games and an equal spread of 21 Dale wins, 20 Cobblers wins and 23 draws. In the League we have 20 wins to their 19 though.

We have not beaten Rochdale on any of their last four visits to Sixfields, they walked off with a 1-0 win on their last visit back in February 2018, Calvin Andrew grabbing the only goal of the game, McWilliams and Hoskins were both unused subs for us that day, the only two survivors in our squad to this day.
They beat us 3-2 in the League in 2016...Matty Lund scored a hat-trick on that day for them and Hoskins was on the scoresheet for us, a goalless draw in the FA Cup in 2014 which saw them play for 75 minutes with 10 men following Ian Hendersons sending off, we went on to lose in the replay, and before that a 3-0 win for them in February 2014, Lund again on the scoresheet, and he also got sent off in the game, with Henderson grabbing a goal as did a certain Joe Bunney.  Mr Lund certainly has some history at Sixfields!!

We have to go right back to February 2013 for our last win on home soil against them, a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Platt, Langmead and Akinfenwa, current Dale manager Brian Barry-Murphy was on the bench for them that day. Barry Murphy has had 92 games in charge of the team since the departure of Keith Hill, 29 wins and 40 defeats on his record.
That win in February 2013 is the only league win for the Cobblers in the last FOURTEEN games between the sides, so we certainly owe them one!

Kevin Johnson will be the man with the whistle tomorrow night, Johnson who hails from Weston-super-Mare was branded "a clown" by the Crawley manager following his handling of their game against Orient a couple of weeks ago. He issued one of his four red cards this season in that game, and 56 yellows in his 20 games suggests players will have to tread a little more carefully than usual on Tuesday. It will be his second visit to the PTS this season, he oversaw our 1-0 home defeat by Accrington in November, he also reffed our early season EFL Cup defeat at Swansea last year. If records are correct this will be the first Rochdale games he's handled since December 2018.

Looks good, bench would be ok too with Sowerby and Edmundson to come on.

I think Watson deserves to start, our strongest goal threat from open play, supported by Marshalls delivery from set pieces. Only questions with that is if Sheehan is fit, and whether you play Horsfall over Jones based on their last game?

I think this is probably our best 11, Take it or leave it between Mitchell and Arnold tbh.

McWilliams, Morris and Watson has enough energy and bite to not require Hoskins in there.

Although with Miller and Marshall I think Morris would have to sit back a little bit more.

I like the look of that but a world without Hoskins?
Expect one of the starting eleven to go down with injury or something between now and KO.

Yes, he’s a young boy, on the bench and light years better than BAS.
I thought he played ok at the weekend and should have scored.

No argument BAS is one of the worst strikers seen on the hallowed turf. Your point saying Edmundson should have scored says it all. I promise you, I would have scored that chance. Obviously when young enough to play  Smiley

I know what you mean😂 off the bench he is the best we’ve currently got if Rose starts.
I’m desperate for a win for JB and the lads tonight they absolutely deserve it.

Is Miller back in contention?
If so, playing him central left midfield could be the answer.
Not sure about the lone Discuss up front though. Where did we get him from anyway?

By all accounts, he did ok second half last game. Obviously focussing on his all round game rather than just his shots on targets. In reality, all the strikers are misfiring, Rose is probably solidified as first choice but he's not untouchable up there. Realisitcally, there isn't much to choose between Rose, Edmunson, Chuk, Bas, Korboa or anyone else you want to stick in the middle, none of them have done it yet, so if it isn't working keep rotating them until someone starts to fire.

Agreed, for me none of them are good enough at this level at the moment.

centre forward (debatable) and goalkeeper (debatable) aside - its probably what most of us would regard our first choice team.....................we dont have a stand out CF or GK so could pick those out of a hat.

wonder if dropping competition winner hoskins will mean a long awaited win?!?!?!?!!??!?!?!?

in this wind - i imagine a dull 0-0

Watson and Marshall ahead of Hoskins.
Well done sir.
Mitchell must be doing something right in training.
