It was better today. Not good, just better. Shrewsbury were of significantly higher quality than anything we've encountered (and failed to beat) over the last month or so, and for the most part we matched them - which makes the recent displays harder to understand. From his post-match interview GJ seems to have a handle on what he needs to change and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can come up with.
I think before yesterday our record in the last eight games, relating to the period from February onwards was W1 D6 L1. I would say in those games we have had two very poor performances against Morecambe and Burton ..... but (importantly) both at Sixfields. The football we have played in the other games has not been too bad but as DC stated we have actually put in some of our best performances away from Sixfields, which I guess only a minority have witnessed. At Port Vale we played some of the best football for a long while ........ and it was only when Osman was (wrongly) sent off did we lose our way. When we played both Hereford and Southend they were both the top of the form table with matching W5 D2 L1 records and we made them look ordinary, and with a bit more fortune and composure we could have come away with three points from both grounds. Actually since the beginning of December our record has been W5 D7 L3 which actually correlates to 67/68 points over a season ......... which is close to play-off form. Yesterdays performance was no better nor worse than what we have been playing in recent weeks it just reinforced the strengths and weaknesses within the team.

What did you actually expect to be different? Crosby picked the team, there were no new players, a couple more injuries and Gary Johnson had been here 24 hours and met the players for the first time just before the game. Did that collate in your mind to a resounding 6-0 win?

Walker was at fault but equally at fault was Johnson who went on a ludicrous marauding run and lost the ball. JJ sometimes needs to remember his number 1 job is to actually defend.
What is it with Johnson's at Right Back who can't defend?

Not sure how you reach that conclusion. I suggest you read the post again.

I read it. It comes accross like one of Linda's. Sammo has gone and he isn't coming back. What went on before is now irrelevant the deciison has been made and harping back to the months leading up to that decision isn't helping anybody.

That's not how I read it, I thought Macc Cobbler was just saying it was a good example of our strengths and weaknesses for GJ to take in and ponder on.

As for Shrewsbury, they didnt strike me as a team going for automatic/play-offs, they didnt on this evidence have too much about them, however they know how to finish and indeed got it done. I thought their Defender cum Striker Jermaine Grandison stood out...looks a player.
Bottom line is they got 3 points, came from a goal down twice shows spirit (or that we can't defend!) and baring in mind our boys should have been more up for this than normal as they are looking to impress Mr Johnson. At this stage of the season its points that matter, not performances. I expect them to go up as they have some classy players for League 2. Grandison playing right back looked very good, only 20 I heard. Davies in the centre mid on loan from Wolves also looked a player. As expected Shrews brought plenty with them, who got behind their team well, unlike our fans.

Is that the same Grandison who got skinned by Michael Jacobs every time he got the ball ? Shrewsbury bought 550 with them ,if we were in the play off spots we would take a lot more than that and they are very quiet when they are at home !

I thought it was a pretty poor turn out as well considering the situation.

Few points from me:
1. If GJ is going into the loan market the first call has to be to someone prepared to give us a centre back. Beckwith and Tozer are both decent players but I have seen nothing to suggest they can play as a pairing. They cost us goals week in week out.
2. Send Josh Walker back to Watford. I'll get slated for this but in my opinion he adds no more than Gilligan does. Of course he's a better player but he is not showing it in a Cobblers shirt. He must be eating up a fair bit of the budget and as Gilligan is contracted for next season we may as well see if GJ can get more out of him.
3. First order of business for the training ground is to get us playing to Harrad's strengths. There is no way he scored all those goals for Burton with his back to goal constantly chesting down lumps up the field. He came close once today and it was when we put a decent cross in for him to attack.
4. If anyone is daft enough to still be discussing the playoffs (Tim O at BBCRN I'm talking to you) then stop. We need 3 more wins to ensure we don't get sucked into a relegation battle. The remaining games are about GJ deciding which players he wants to keep and who can leave.
That'll do me.
And me. Pretty much nailed there Greenleys.
