Bristol Rovers and ourselves have the worst away records in the division with 14 points from 20 games. In fact they are identical except we have scored 1 more goal. Also both teams have failed to score in 10 of the 20 games and both have 4 clean sheets. 12 of Bristol Rovers 14 away points were gained in their first 8 away games and their last league away win was at AFC Wimbledon on 5th December. In their last 12 away games they have just 2 points from 0-0 draws at Posh and Fleetwood and 10 defeats, scoring just 6 goals and conceding 25. Before they beat Doncaster on Monday they had lost their previous 5 games so their JB is doing worse than our JB. We have this year lost to the other 4 bottom 6 teams but in the first set of fixtures we only lost to Bristol Rovers so it stands to reason they will be the only ones we beat in the second set of fixtures. It appears they have Rodman, Kilgour and Grant who may all be available again after injuries and we will need to keep an eye on their loanee Luke McCormick. We have won 4 of our last 5 home games against better teams than Bristol Rovers so there is no reason we cannot beat them.

So, here I am, 24 hours earlier than usual with my preview and stat pack ahead of this weekends huge game! West Stand and Doc Feelgood have stolen my thunder a bit, but here goes!!
21st place Rovers visit the Fields of Six on Saturday, two points behind us they are, so it doesn't take a genius to work out that we'll be five clear with a win, or 1 behind with a defeat...the proverbial six-pointer! The Pirates, managed now by Joey Barton of course, have the worst away record in the league, just three wins on the road, those coming at Lincoln, Shrewsbury and Wimbledon, although they have registered Cup victories too on their travels at Walsall and Leyton Orient in the Pizza Cup.
Defender Luke Leahy and Forward Brendan Hanlan lead the goalscoring charts with nine goals each, Hanlan has only scored one goal in his last 23 appearances, with the already identified Chelsea loanee Luke McCormick weighing in with six goals including three in the last two games. Erhun Oztumer is a useful option to have off the bench but its fair to say his form has dipped since leaving Walsall and ending up at the Memorial Ground via spells with Bolton and Charlton.
Barton is new in the hotseat, three wins in 12 games this season, he is their third permanent manager this season following Ben Garners (6 wins in 33) sacking in November and Paul Tisdales (6 wins in 21) short stint.
In the head to head stakes, there's always going to be a couple of games which stick out.....the famous playoff comeback in 1998 which sent us to Wembley for a second consecutive season. Overall though there have been 103 previous meeting between the two sides, we hold the edge with 38 wins to 36.
More recently Rovers are actually unbeaten against us in their last seven games, a couple of heavy defeats for us amongst them, 6-0 at Sixfields in 2017 as we capitulated and conceded five in the last 35 minutes along with seeing Alex Revell be sent off. Nine months earlier we fell to a 5-0 defeat on their patch with Ellis Harrison scoring four. The last meeting at Sixfields saw them walk off with a 2-1 FL Trophy win and earlier this season they beat us 2-0 thanks to goals from Hanlan and Baldwin in a game where Joe Martin saw red for the Cobblers. The meeting prior to that saw us lose 3-2 on our patch, again we managed to have a player sent off, Zakuani this time after Alex Revell had netted twice for us, we fell to a 90th minute winner by Charlie Colkett, who incidentally was a Chelsea loanee! Lets hope history doesn't repeat itself!
Referee for the game is down to be David Rock from Hertfordshire, he's a second year EFL ref who has handed out cards in each of the 27 games he's officiated this season. 86 yellows and 6 reds so far, worryingly five of those red cards have come in his last ten games. Its his second visit to the PTS this season having reffed the 5-0 win over Southampton juniors in the Pizza Cup, and also his second game reffing Rovers on their travels, the first of which saw them fall to defeat at Oxford at the end of January. His first assignment as an EFL ref saw him take charge of our game at Port Vale last season when he booked five Cobblers, Sam Hoskins being one of them!

Plagiarism.
I think given our current plight it falls firmly under 'fair usage'.
