With the writing on the wall (but not written yet) what should happen next at the Cobblers?
1/ Keep the Brady bunch into next season regardless of relegation and announce it now. 2/ Appoint a new manager NOW and let them prepare for next season. 3/ Wait until the end of the season and then decide what to do. At the stage when other teams are planning and we're not. 4/ Another option??
This is an important time in decision making and in my belief it needs to be made sooner rather than later, preparations need to be put in place for next season with immediate effect otherwise next season will be as bad as this one has been.

This is a good question. One to which I cannot decide on an answer. What should happen and what will happen are two entirely different matters. What I am sure of is that it won't be long before we get informed by the club that 'there is no immediate rush to sign new players as there will be plenty of good players out of contract at the end of season and we will be able to pick and choose later in the summer'. Yeah like!

Yeah that worked out well didn't it? Anyway, its ok, due to the pandemic quite a few clubs will go to the wall and we'll stay up that way as we are well run and financially stable.......

Please don’t take this the wrong way because it’s a good post but I’ve got to the stage where I really couldn’t care less, with Thomas in charge don’t expect anything dynamic or even reactive he’s about as interested as I am.

I agree. Get a new manager in and let him assess the squad and plan for next season. Paul Tisdale, Kenny Jackett (no chance) or David Oldfield for me.

apparently its only "paper debt" so it doesn't really matter.....as long as the bills are being paid then all is good. Just don't mention the Chinese......

I can see why you feel that way. I think quite a few are starting to feel the same way

This would be my preference:
1. Offer new contracts to McWilliams, Lloyd Jones, Ryan Watson. IMO all three have proven that they are L1-standard players and all three (along with Horsfall) can provide a strong central spine for a promotion push next year. Above all we need to avoid going into yet another new season with a massive rebuilding job on our hands.
2. Delay the decision on Brady until the end of the season. If we continue to fight, pick up some points and perhaps even that elusive away win then it will strengthen his case; if we capitulate completely then it should leave KT with an easy decision.
I think in many ways I would rather see Brady continue than witness yet another failed journeyman come in. We have some decent young players in the squad and I think Brady is probably best placed to develop them rather than a new man who will inevitably rip it all up and start again.
I like the style of football that Brady wants to play and I think that given some scope in the transfer market he could produce an entertaining and effective side. However, I need to see a little bit more evidence over these next four games that Brady is capable of grinding out results and instilling some 'game management' in the side.

KT has been back in the country for a good few weeks now but we haven't heard anything from him...
I'm not expecting anything from him until just prior to the April 30th deadline for season ticket refunds...
Then we can expect the standard Gareth Wiltshire video where KT explains how gutted he is that we've been relegated, but he believes we'll have a decent budget for league two, and fans can look forward to another exciting season...In the hope that fans will just accept & blindly donate/renew...
Think he'll be shocked by the amount of refunds that are requested & number of season tickets that are not renewed...

The only thing I would add to that is do what you can to offload the 4 strikers contracted for next season, maybe keep Hoskins but get shot of BAS, Rose & Smith, to make room for some attackers who know where the goal is.

Rose? I thought he's got a decent record in league 2.

What's the point in signing a "name" manager? He'll want a shed load of money and a three year contract to protect his reputation by taking on the basket case that is this club. You would then have to pay off the various members of the Brady bunch and fund his new staff. After about 18 months of player contracts being cancelled and new ones brought in we'll all be fed up with his failed recruitment, broken promises, useless tactics and poor interviews. He will be paid off and the search for a new Messiah starts again. Sound familiar?
That's a lot of money that could be spent on half decent players - they are the only ones that will make the difference.

I'd keep Rose. He's proved himself decent at League 2 level, and in a different side might have proven decent this year. We already have the spine of a decent side for next year (assuming we can hold on to a few who'll want away). I know the strikers have proven woeful, but it is the creativity department wherein lays the problem.

What about David Oldfield at Oxford City or even Kevin Wilkin at Brackley? If we're going down the non-league route this should be the time to do it. Also, we wouldn't need to pay off the Brady bunch because KT has already stated they will all remain at the club after caretaker duties have finished.

What difference do you think David Oldfield or Kevin Wilkin will make - except add to the admin budget? They are just other managers, the same as Brady and co.

I’d keep Brady, fed up of journeymen. I’m not convinced KT is going to splash the cash and will try not to add to the debt. As long as we don’t start flirting with the bottom quarter of league 2 I think they’ll be happy to tread water until the land is sorted. I just don’t see a feasible model of progression with the current owners.
