Does she? The only person I've heard it pronounced anything like 'teyn' is from someone over 75 on Look East. Maybe it's that embedded in my vocab I can't hear it! That’s not how I remember it, that footage has been doctored.

It is an offence, but carries no points. My own (illegally-spaced) personal number plate has been in use for quite a few years now, and I’ve never been stopped The first time you will get a "fix it notice" after that you start looking at points because funnily enough they keep records.

It should also be failed on an MOT.....I know people put their correct plates on for the test though and then swap them back over as soon as they get the certificate.

Did you have any input, into the origin of the word Teyn? Pickering Phipps maybe?
Yes, a group of us were discussing one day how the old skool accent was fading with youngsters talking like wanna be London gangsters. We said, wouldn't it be fun of it started to get revived. We started referring to Teyn.... Assuming a spelling... Which gets debated 😂 Fast forward to the play offs when we got battered by Bradford and the headline in the Chronic Error was Come on Teyn. That's all it was. Oh and it it's more of a village thing rather than town, especially Yardley, Bozeat, Brafield etc. It's funny the discussion my post has started 😂

Definitely an 'old boy' village twang. Like I said, when you see an old un' from Northants on Look East they sound like proper farmers! The townie accent dropped most of the twang a generation ot two ago, although some of the local dialect is certainly still around. Head over to Kett'rin way and you'll still hear "kent" and "shent" absolutely feral. So in a nutshell you need someone over 70 to buy your plate.

I once had a 'personalised' plate. It read 5ELL ME. I sold it to a retired secondhand car salesman. I think he said his name was Kevin Taylor.

Yes that's how I remember it growing up in Roade in the 1960s, as kids then we where Guwin everywhere!

I moved to Northampton in 1970 and plenty of the kids born and bred in Kingsley used to say it.
