It's about more than just goals though.

Three promotions including a title
Part of the 2015/16 side
A play off final goal at Wembley
A promotion winning goal at Tranmere
A 20-goal season
A decade of service and more than 400 appearances, one of our all time appearance leaders
And now a double in a 4-0 win at London Road.

In today's game, at our level, that's utterly remarkable. I'm 32 and I'd be willing to wager I won't see another Cobblers player with that kind of career here in my lifetime

When you read this a great set of stats

His first goal was sublime, well done Super Sam.

I’m liking the Super Sam love-in, Bingers is clearly a good influence on you. Only a matter of time before you acknowledge the moon landings and join the left!

I think you're right. You have to be of a certain standard to remain at a club for so long. You have to be decent but not quite good enough to attract suitors. Take Large for example, he earned transfers many time in his career.

Some of that is only speculation. Frank Large may have decided to look around elsewhere to see if the grass was greener. He certainly played for a lot of clubs, which suggests he was restless. Obviously, no big club has come in for Hoskins, otherwise he would surely have left, but I think it's highly likely he's attracted a number of suitors in L1 and L2 over the years, but has simply decided he's happier where he is. Full credit to him.

Frank Large played for Fulham, Leicester and QPR (amongst others). As a prolific goalscorer he was highly sought after and in demand. Coming to the Cobblers three times sort of belies the grass was greener you allege.

As for Hoskins, you think its highly likely do you? Well I don't. Yes I guess some clubs may have come in for him from time to time, obviously none of any great standing or are you trying to tell me Sam turned down lucrative moves to much bigger clubs because he just loves the Cobblers so much? Don't make me laugh.

Managers like Bowen and Wilder* are rare to come by! Whether we like it or not Jon Brady is the only recent Manager who can possibly follow in their* footstops!

We should stick with him, as at the moment he is our only hope of survival as a EFL Club!

A "much bigger" club than the Cobblers would mean a big club and I specifically said he would obviously have left for a big club. You said in your orginal message that Frank Large attracted suitors (you didn't say at what level) and Hoskins hasn't, but in this reply you say he probably has. I haven't said that Hoskins has ever been offered a really lucrative move, but I would still consider it likely that he's turned down better financial offers from clubs slightly above and around Cobblers level, as you would expect for a player who scored 37 goals in 2 seasons in L2 then L1.

Frank Large first came to us in 1962/3 in Division 3 (that's our current level) and scored 30 goals in 47 appearances to help the Cobblers win their first ever title in the football league.

He returned in 1966/7 when we were in Division 2 (Championship level) and bagged a further 15 goals in 37 appearances.

On his third and final stint (he must have liked it here) when he was coming to the end of his career, we were back in the bottom division, yet he still managed 43 goals in 136 appearances.

I didn't start the comparison between Large and Hoskins, I just added a little bit of clarity. You can't just take figures at face value without some background.

Hoskins is cemented in Cobblers history and a club legend for what he's been apart of. I've been following Cobblers since 1992, I was six and has been first player in my time as a fan to hit 20 goals, I'll always love him for that alone.

He's been consistently picked by every manager we've had since Wilder and I think that speaks volumes about him and his character. I've also met him buying a big bag of dog food at Riverside and he was very easy to talk to and accommodating.

He will be getting my vote on modern day Cobblers 11 for sure.

And what a pity you didn't say that in the first place without trying to compare him with another Cobblers legend. How you feel about Sam is exactly the way a lot of us who saw him play remember big Frank.

"compare him with another Cobblers legend".

You've seen the light. A subtle but significant change in your pov.

Good to see.

Go through my posts. I don't think I've criticised Hoskins this season. He's earned his status in the same way Sammo did.

This is a case of mistaken identity my good chap. I never compared him to anyone, particularly Frank Large, who I never saw play.  Your looking for parklands606, it's a very different number to 151 Wink It's ok though, all is forgiven.

My stats on all on here now, people can make of them what they will.

Saying Hoskins has scored more goals than Frank Large without stating how many appearances each has made makes the stat worthless. Its like me bragging I scored 180 with three darts, omitting it took me 100 darts to do it.

You can only really compare like for like which is not the case with Large and Hoskins. Large was an out and out central striker where Hoskins has played very few games, mostly he has been out wide. I don’t recall Large playing wing back. Best to compare
Large to Cliff Holton.

I don't think Large took penalties either, at least I don't recall him doing so.

Look, Large is a Cobblers legend, so is Hoskins. Bingers told you Frain is too, and I guess Pat Gavin (at least his arse) is also  in the hall of fame. (It's a big hall) I'm not sure it's that big a deal but each to their own.
