I messed up a bit. Heres what I was trying to post, 31 seconds in. Strange the way these things work out.

Absolute classic. He had it totally spot on in all aspects of stereotypical Yorkshireness.

After listening to the evidence offered up today, I really hope its not all true. If it is, it is a sad indictment and insight into the poor blokes life around some serious fcuking @rseholes.

Some complicated issues here. " Racism isn't banter" true enough " Banter isn't always Racism" also true especially between best mates. Rafiq was so unhappy during his time at Yorkshire he decided to sign for them a second time, odd. He was released by the county again in 2018 and in the same year endured the agony of the death of his still born son. This must be the year his sense of life's injustice was triggered by his understandable grief. He sounds bitter and when his memories of his time in the game, coloured or not, are added to his sad experiences he has a tragic story to tell. But is cricket inherently racist? Rafiq was the youngest and first Asian captain of Yorkshire, so was not held back by his race. It is obviously right to look into such matters but as with all history we should try to learn from it not change it or seek to paint over.

And it was obviously so bad that he had to sign up for another very lucrative season just to make sure.

I suppose he's right that Cricket is institutionally racist and he is part of that institution. The old saying of not poking a wasp nest with a stick comes to mind.

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding here. Nothing justifies the racism he underwent. Not even the fact that he has made racist remarks himself. Yes… It completely impacts on his virtuous and righteous stance. But those that racially abused him, didn’t do so because they were returning his lack of moral fibre. They did it because the colour of his skin and his ethnicity. “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. That’s all of us fcuked

That’s all of us fcuked I don't think there's any misunderstanding (on this board) at all. I think we are all acutely aware that one wrong does not justify another. What makes you think otherwise?

What annoys me is he seems to think he can just make a simpering apology and that is enough for his transgression but not the transgressions of others.

I think there is a big difference between institutional and individual racism. We could debate the amount of culpability of individual cases all day but racism will only be reduced when institutions take it seriously and put the proper protocols in place.

Again I will ask if it was that fúcking bad why did he sign for another very lucrative season? Money is more important than morals until such time as you can exploit the former.

I think he suffered at the hands of 'Banterists' I'm sure there is 'banter' at all sporting clubs (and everywhere else) that is extremely un PC and maybe beyond the pale. However to avoid offending anyone, we all have to stop saying anything at all and if we stop talking we stop being Human. In other words I don't know what the answer is, but keeping calm and carrying on would be a start.
