This is my take on potential. I spent many years working all over the country. Latterly more so on the south and southwest coast. Some places you go to, and irrespective of whether or not people attended games, they still knew and as interested in their local team. Huddersfield is such a place. When it comes to the Cobblers, and this town. I can hardly name anybody I know who gives a shyte. I worked in some big employers in the town. Where there would be at best, a few of us who could could tell you what league we were in, let alone attend actual games. When I was a kid, I grew up in the borough (real supporter me) we all either went to games, or knew what was going on. Now that’s totally different.

I think we would need a protracted period of notable success to even start turning heads in Northampton. If I mention the Cobblers to anyone, I receive one of three key identifying factors from them.

1. Don’t hold the record for going up and down the leagues the fastest.
2. I remember George Best single handedly turning you over.
3. Has that bloke who stole the millions been arrested yet.

And the answer to my question is?

It’s in the reply/comments Shocked I appreciate the ? at the end but assumed it was a just statement. It’s difficult to apologise for an opinion in response to a message with a personal slant to it. Sorry about my apparent tactless comment  Cool . Must do better  Grin

So we have none (until we've already realised some of it).
Is that what you are saying?

My guess is if we were in the championship we would probably average somewhere between 6,000-9,000

This is topical given the long standing 'ownership' debate that has been going on...

Put your neutral hats on. Which 5 lower league clubs or non league clubs would you consider buying (assuming debt free so equal platform), factoring in potential support, catchment area, location etc etc. I often consider Northampton to be in that bracket, be interesting to see what others think.

Here's mine..

Plymouth
Carlisle
Cobblers
Bradford
Notts County

Any club situated in a well located highly populated area will be a great asset for owners who hope to run a club within its means, building up the product, its support base, its revenue streams and national profile.
So other than Northampton,  all other clubs seem to have got the decent owners who strive to build up their respective clubs. You dont need Billionaires if you have these things.,  just the ambition
Stockport Chesterfield Wrexham and Notts county etc have suffered badly from greedy grasping ownership, so it's great to see them fighting back.
My list would be..
1 Northampton
2 Wrexham
3 Stockport
4 Notts county
5. A newly formed concept in a built up area that could grab the imagination.
Had Rushden and Diamonds instead been called Northants united, sold to 750.000 it would easily have been Northants top dogs these past 20 years.

I thought “not sure what your question is” might help towards explaining quite what you want an answer to. Never mind eh  Grin

Beds has always had a point when banging on about catchment area and thus potential but Tel hit the nail on the head in saying it will take a protracted period of success before most of it can be unlocked.
