This is topical given the long standing 'ownership' debate that has been going on...
Put your neutral hats on. Which 5 lower league clubs or non league clubs would you consider buying (assuming debt free so equal platform), factoring in potential support, catchment area, location etc etc. I often consider Northampton to be in that bracket, be interesting to see what others think.
Here's mine..
Plymouth
Carlisle
Cobblers
Bradford
Notts County
Any club situated in a well located highly populated area will be a great asset for owners who hope to run a club within its means, building up the product, its support base, its revenue streams and national profile.
So other than Northampton, all other clubs seem to have got the decent owners who strive to build up their respective clubs. You dont need Billionaires if you have these things., just the ambition
Stockport Chesterfield Wrexham and Notts county etc have suffered badly from greedy grasping ownership, so it's great to see them fighting back.
My list would be..
1 Northampton
2 Wrexham
3 Stockport
4 Notts county
5. A newly formed concept in a built up area that could grab the imagination.
Had Rushden and Diamonds instead been called Northants united, sold to 750.000 it would easily have been Northants top dogs these past 20 years.
