Could be wrong here but I think the only reason Mk is "bigger" in population terms than Northampton is that they have massively extended the admin boundaries to include countless villages plus the town of Olney. There is a "welcome to Milton Keynes" sign in the middle of nowhere on the A428.

I guess they will play at a new ground. The old bus station would be a good site.

Not another flippin' Chelsea fan. Also, NTFC is unique, NCFC isn't.
flippin was almost right Shoemender, I was being flippant. Not really no, though I do prefer them to those other blues from Birmingham. How about AFCN?

Naah. NTFC for me. If we did become a city and had to become NCFC, I think we'd be the first proper team to change our name since Swansea Town in 1969. Although didn't Hartlepools become Hartlepool United?

Orient changed their name to Leyton Orient in the late 80's/early 90's.

They were already Leyton Orient, but at some time in the past (60s?) dropped the Leyton (no idea why?). Eventually they reverted to Leyton Orient.

They were Clapton Orient before that. 1920's maybe?

I like the uniqueness of being the only team being NTFC and playing in Claret and White

Northampton biggest town in Uk
I only moved recently to Daventry but in Northampton a lot. After travelling a bit it dawned on me that we must also have one of the most congested towns in the UK. Travelling between Sixfields, Moulton Park, through Kingsthorpe. St Peters way, Mill Lane. It’s pretty much permanent gridlock. Maybe we need to stop building houses on every plot and corner.

Bit OTT Oliver as Northampton was the de facto capital due to the wars against the Welsh ref Edward 1st.
Dark ages is difficult because obviously lack of primary aources a lot of the time, but definitely read we were the capital for some years, which would make sense considering central location and how often it bounced around after King Alfred. Thought Reading was biggest town and we were second. Regardless, far less deserving places have been made cities ahead of us. Supposed to be because of being so central to the Roundheads during the civil war, but its time for sure.

Nuneaton Town FC would argue with that. - and they were formed before us.

As would Nantwich Town, also apparently older than us.

I thought they only do one every 10 years and Southend had jumped the queue and been given it because their MP was murdered?
As mentioned, the only advantage I can see is that it would really pi** off MK. Who, I think to bring fair to them, are the biggest town in UK?!
If we do, how about going leftfield with the name: - Northampton Thursday - Northampton Cobblers - Northampton Nil - Northampton Ponderers
Northampton Nil. That's fantastic. Well played Jim.
