This thread doesn't appear to ahave attracted much interest. Don't we care or don't we know or is it just another stupid question?

I've got to say I don't know as I have no idea how good Collis is. However if the other two loanees are anything to go by and Johnson is looking to keep Collis then I'd like to see him given a go.

Dunn. Collis has hardly played for a couple of years so he's hardly made a strong case to be included. Dunn's had some really good games recently, despite the odd mistake.

Do you think Dunn will be first choice next season?

I don't, I reckon someone else (not Collis) will be brought in. Most of those "odd" mistakes have been very costly, ask Sammo. (I think he's in a queque at a petrol station near you)

I'd personally keep the faith awhile longer. For GJ, despite a jittery showing yesterday by all accounts, to drop him after one game would be alittle rash.

If of course things don't go so well for Dunn against Macclesfield, then by all means there's a case for bringing in Collis. It's for GJ to assess though if maybe our defensive frailties comes more down to the Goalkeepers presence and commanding of his back four - are the defence on the same page as the keeper? or is it the other way around?. Either way if Dunn was to be dropped, i don't think it'll affect him too much, he's shown in the past he can bounce back for the better.

Be unfair to question whether the keeper and defence are on the same page. I dont even think the defence are on the same page as the defence at the moment Roll Eyes

What you mean, if he lets in another soft goal and we end up losing?

Two players were dropped to let the other two loanees come straight in the side, I don't know why a goalkeeper should get preferential treatment.

I agree but this cannot really affect GJ's decsision.
He has to go with who he thinks will do the better job. My guess is that it will still be Dunn.

Would agree with this, but having said that, how good is Collis? His record doesn't suggest he is an obvious first choice keeper, and seems to be very much a squad player. Maybe GJ has brought him in because of what he brings to the dressing room, and to advise and train Dunny?
Of course I could be wrong, and he could turn out to be a very decent stopper. Honestly have my doubts that Dunn will be first choice next season though, for all of the good saves he makes he is still prone to lapses in concentration, weak on crosses, and woeful at kicking. Apart from that he is fine though. Tongue

Considering his age and record he has hardly played at all. Far from writing someone off before seeing them but I wouldn't expect too much. It is probably more in an attempt to get Dunn to up his game sharpish.

So whats your method of thinking then?, Dunn's made too many errors, drop him. Then hypothetically say, Collis then also drops a clanger, right drop him too! - Someone else in , then someone else, then someone else...you know how it goes etc... - Doesnt work like that my old fruit as you know! Throw-away society eh!  Roll Eyes

Point being, Keepers will make errors just like the defence, the defence at times will be bailed out, unlike a keeper - they really are the last line of defence... Just automatically dropping a keeper after making errors is a little more complexed than just chopping and changing an underperforming group of defenders. Goalkeeping is of course a crucial part of the game, Squads don't carry 5/6 keepers, primarily just 2 maybe 3 and as manager you can't just drop the keeper every other week at the first sign of error, there has to be a little more patience and faith at times in that area, a little more leeway? yes, preferential treatment? No.

Dunn is f***ing useless, I'd rather Liam Davis was in goal.

The way I see it is the relationship between the keeper and defence is a bit 'chicken and egg'. Are the defence shaky because they lack confidence in the keeper or visa versa? Well GJ has quickly focused on improving the outfield defence and put pressure on Dunn with another keeper, so we will (hopefully) soon see which it is. I'm not 'anti-Dunn' like some but I don't think that he could complain if he lost his place. If you looked at a compilation of the goals conceded (which no doubt GJ has) then he has probably made more howlers than most at this level. Granted, he may have made more saves too, I don't know, but ultimately in a keeper you want some middle ground, i.e. minimal howlers.
