4th placed team promoted 15 times through the playoffs 5th placed team promoted 4 times 6th placed team promoted 6 times 7th placed team promoted 8 times
There we have it, the league table doesn't (usually) lie. We've got these play offs in the bag. Looking forward to Wembley and the resulting celebrations already. And our forthcoming trips to Sheffield Wednesday and Accrington!

Thanks, particularly looking forward to Accrington, only 40 minutes from here. I'll look out for you as I head down the M1 on Saturday afternoon.

Surely you would rather stay down and have local derby's with your friends from Chesterfield and Notts County.

In the Early format of the play offs, the final was a home and away 2 leg affair. Wolves and Steve Bull were in 4th place and little Aldershot 15 points worse off in 7th.
After a Desmond at the Rec, Aldershot won 2-0 at a packed ....Molenux... Molenuex ...Wolves ground.

So over the years, the first couple of years included a team from the division above, a sort of promotion/relegation playoff, 1988/89 was the first season of the next four teams competing for the final place. There was one year where 8th got you a playoff place, and one where they only went down to 6th (Maidstone/Aldershot demise), but the definitive totals for each team finishing in what are 4th/5th/6th/7th place or equivalents are.....
4th placed team promoted 15 times through the playoffs 5th placed team promoted 4 times 6th placed team promoted 6 times 7th placed team promoted 8 times
These are just the figures for the bottom tier fourth division/third division/League 2
Thanks GPC. Not sure it makes me feel any more confident though Cannot wait for Saturday.

Don’t bother with him Bingers, waste of space. Obviously has an inferiority complex and is worried about NTFC.
