FGR, are they as invincible as their record suggests?
These stats would suggest they are. Only lost 2 games so far. Divisions highest scorers with 47 goals (9 more than Newport Co.). Only Tranmere have conceded fewer goals. 11 away games won 7, drawn 4, lost 0, scored 27, conceded 11. As they are averaging 2.1/2 goals per game and we have only scored more than 2 on 3 occasions our chances look slim, also they have scored 2 goals or more in 8 of the 11 games. In the 11 away games they have only once conceded more than 1 goal ( the 5-5 goalfest at Oldham).
But maybe they are not so invincible, as posted on another thread so far they have only played 5 games against the other teams in the top 8 with only an average record. All of these were home games with 2 wins ( 1 of these slightly fortunate against us), 1 draw and 2 losses. So this will be their first away game at a top 8 team.
Exeter seem to hold the key to stopping them scoring as they have played out 2 0-0 draws.
Their striking pair of Matt and Stevens have been prolific and since joining FGR Matt has scored at better than a goal every 2 games. This is at odds with his previous record of 27 goals in 142 games, less than 1 in 5, (Newport Co. 20 in 76, Grimsby 4 in 34 and Blackpool 3 in 32).
As you would expect with runaway leaders they are packing in the crowds and a bumper crowd of 1829 saw their game on Tuesday night so expect an away following of 2 men and a dog.

FGR fans on their forum seem to be happy with a draw, many expecting a defeat.

They are also having a call to arms for fans travelling to Sixfields. Whereas I don't expect too many to infiltrate the home sections, which could cause untold problems, don't be surprised to see travelling numbers in the high nineties!

Luckily they're easy to spot. They'll be the ones telling everyone about the benefits of veganism OR demolishing a dozen pies each

Zimba must start this one. Absolutely no point not finding out asap whether he represents the solution to our attacking intention woes. The sooner it is made clearer to our Board of Directors what our shortcomings are (or otherwise) the better.

What can I say? OAP has beaten me to the punch again....the joys of being retired I guess! He also adds in a few more stats per game, i'll be redundant soon!

The odds-on title favourites visit Sixfields on Saturday, they are as low as 1/6 to win the league, and sit nine points clear of their nearest challengers with a game in hand. Unbeaten away from home in the league this season although they were beaten at Brentford (EFL Cup) and at St Albans City (FA Cup) so they're not invincible on the road! Their last away league game defeat came in April at Walsall, and they are unbeaten in the league home and away in 12 games (8 wins 4 defeats)

Rob Edwards took over as manager in the summer (16 wins in 30 games in all competitions) following the departure of Mark Cooper. This is only their fifth season in the Football League, they have made the playoffs twice but have not found their way our of League 2 yet. A sixth placed finish last season saw them make the playoffs only to lose to Newport 5-4 on aggregate in the semi-final.

Matt and Stevens have been mentioned (28 goals between them) and Nicky Cadden has weighed in with six goals from midfield.

The two teams have met six times previously, we have three wins to their two. In the four league meetings its honours even with two wins apiece, we have won both games at Sixfields and they have won both on their patch. We have already met twice this season, in the reverse league fixture a late Jamille Matt goal was enough to secure the three points for FGR in front of 2576 fans, that game came less than two weeks after we secured a penalty shootout win in the Papa Johns Trophy at the New Lawn, Scott Pollock equalising an early Harriman own goal. The attendance that night was just 892.
The previous Sixfields meetings saw us win 2-1 in October 2018, a come-from-behind win thanks to goals from Aaron Pierre and a last minute Andy Williams winner. A Matt Mills (not to be confused with Jacob Mills) own goal on the stroke of half time was enough for us to get the three points in December 2019 before a crowd of 4534.

All four league games have seen one goal margins, the trend was only bucked when FGR were a non league team and we won 3-0 in the FA Cup back in 2010 with goals from John Johnson, Steve Guinan and Michael Jacobs.

Marc Edwards will make the long trek down from Tyne and Wear to referee the game. This will be the third time he has taken charge of a Cobblers game, all at Sixfields. He was the man in the middle for our 0-2 playoff semi final defeat to Cheltenham in 2020, and he also took charge of our 0-1 defeat to Wigan in February 2021. Fifteen games this season have seen him flash 51 yellow cards and one red, he was FGR's ref in their draw at Bradford at the end of October.

They've been here before.... admittedly not this far ahead but they've blown up every time.

We'll roar past them with a 97th minute winner in the last game of the season. Tranmere and Swindon will win that day too and we'll beat them both to the title by 2 points. FGR will lose, drop to 4th then lose in the play off semi against Mansfield, who will go on to beat Newport 3-1 in the final.

I've got balls..... and they're made of crystal

I do hope we are charging their coaches to park as they are one of the very few clubs that DO charge away fans coaches, despite being in the middle of nowhere and no other means of getting there. Also don't let their fans in Carr's Bar making them drink at the back of the Stand, it would be nice if we could close the normal toilets and give them a Port-a-Loo, just how away fans are treated at FGR !!!

Two view points are always appreciated at least by me and no doubt by most members. Certainly no need to be apologetic about an excellent intro’. Thanks Cool

These are the best team in the division by far.

Pre Christmas and with Kion up top, I think we could have beaten them. However failing to pick up a point against an average and a very poor league 2 side, I can't see it.

It will be interesting to see how we line up tomorrow. If Zimba starts he needs another striker to feed off which then involves a change of formation. Should we play 442 our 2 wide players, Hoskins and Pinnock will need to be much narrower to avoid us getting over-run in the midfield.
FGR play 352 and we could match them up which would mean playing either young Max Dyche as the third centre back or McGowan out of position and he isn't going to be winning many headers against Matt.
We need to stop the crosses coming in from their wing backs to stop the supply to Matt. Our best chances of scoring still seems to be from dead ball situations but the delivery needs to be much better than last week when our standards slipped.

Looking on the FGR site made me laugh. 1 poster asking if you could buy tickets on the day here and another replied yes you can "it's a big ground".
Another says "looks like we are taking a big following", well they have put on a second bus.

I assume they must have a rich benefactor as relying on gates of 2700 and below might be difficult?

Major shareholder is Dale Vince who owns electricity company Ecotricity. They only had 1829 on Tuesday night, hard to turn a profit on crowds like that.
