Good point!
Although this does mean that for a game between 4th and 5th in the league we could only muster 4000 home fans, which isn't great.
On the subject of gates though, I have been astounded by some of the attendances in the National League this season. Stockport v Chesterfield on Tuesday night attracted 10,236..... Southend v Bromley pulled in 8070 on the same night, there were over 5600 at Notts County and over 4600 at Grimsby. Stockports gate came off the back of a 7000+ crowd on the Saturday just three days before, a day which also saw over 9000 at Notts County and 6000+ at Chesterfield. The "big 6" in the National League see Southend in 6th place overall with an average gate of 5459..... 6th place in our league Hartlepool are on 5151
That’s cheered me up - is admission a lot cheaper?

As I've stated loads of time, we do nothing to try to attract casual supporters. We had/have Tuesday night games on 1st & 8th Feb and 1st March, we all know that Tuesday gates are lower than Saturdays, why didn't we try something like "Buy 2 get the third free/ £5" ? We have to remember that most people who go to a game also spend on other things like programmes, food, drink, draw tickets and at the club shop which is all extra money. Worth a try ?
Agree with this, there's so much we can do. Kid a quid, £1 ticket for mates of a season ticket holder (although sitting together becomes an issue), free (or half price) pint / soft drink in Carr's bar (entices people to go for a drink when they return, although I hear the TV's don't work ), discount a Tuesday game when buying a ticket for the Saturday before or after,

Stockport are on a massive financial roll, leading to success on the pitch - they lured Bolton's top scorer as well as recently promoted Hartlepool's manager. Southend had a special promotion for Tuesday night's game against Bromley - not exactly sure, but something like kids free or pay what you want kind of thing. Notts County did similar earlier in the season, attracting a record National League attendance. As an aside, Oxford City have recently been getting 1000+ gates instead of the usual 3-400... all impressive though - especially Grimsby, who are not blessed with being financially bank rolled and thus not too much to shout about on the pitch, but nevertheless, get big followings, home and away.

Interesting. I wonder if any of it is due to a disconnect between the Premier League clubs and the 'normal person on the street' (whoever they are). Personally never been interested in premier league teams but I know a few people who take their kids to Northampton games instead of jumping on the train to London as its easier and cheaper.

Possibly, though quite ironic in that case, that the two clubs getting massive hikes in attendance (Wrexham and Stockport) are doing so on the backs of lucrative sugar daddies riding over the hill!

I'll predict that if Tom (Cruise or Hanks, probably not Hanks as he supports Villa), or Brad Pitt fancy buying us and throwing a few mill in I reckon Sixfields would be pretty full every game. It'll be interesting how long the Deadpool love-in lasts if they don't get out of the National League this or next season. It's great for attendances though.

So Southend and the rest of the freebooters are on a joy ride? They just have not got the class?

Yep, I know just used Southend as an ad hoc example without caring about too much about the other ponied clubs. There is just a few clubs involved so why not plucky old Southend bankrolled or not.

This all seems to me like pyramid selling. What happens if every club is owned by a billionaire, two of them are still going to get relegated to the National League right. The effects of big investment on the pitch doesn’t appear to be as effective as it once was, hence the move for a breakaway league. This investor model may reach its natural conclusion at some point and that may well be bad news for the clubs and their supporters?
