https://news.sky.com/story/jake-daniels-blackpool-footballer-17-comes-out-as-gay-becoming-only-openly-gay-male-professional-footballer-in-britain-12614598Well done to that young man. It's a shame that it's taken so long for this to happen and that he has had to make this first 'brave' decision himself, when there will undoubtedly be older and more experienced players who have felt that they were unable because of the (perceived) environment, conditions and possible adverse responses, within the football world. I sincerely look forward to the day when an announcement like this is not headline news and becomes the norm.

I see what you're saying but the media announce it as though every gay footballer has a duty to come out. Why? anybody's sexuality, politics or religion are nothing to do with any one else. Footballers like everyone should be judged on ability, not lifestyle.

It's not about a duty of coming out. It will help him and others to be their true selves, which stems far beyond football. The men's game is still in the relative dark ages in relation to outdated views in a number of areas.
What he has done will help a lot of people inside and outside of the game. Unfortunately as the first for a long time he will carry the mantle of being 'that gay striker'. I'm sure there'll be some hell holes around the country he faces some stick if his career takes off but I am sure he'll handle it if he is sticking the goals in.

I don’t agree with the distasteful and cruel mockery a footballer can suffer from the terraces. Why on earth these guys wish to broadcast their private life is beyond me! It’s private and should stay that way.

Bit soft centred as mentioned before it’s a private matter and should stay that way

Keep up with the programme Evers. You can blow your mind and educate yourself with these. https://www.healthline.com/health/different-gendershttps://www.cosmopolitan.com/sex-love/a39186738/list-of-sexualities/https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/gender-neutral-pronounsI have genuinely been on a course to be discouraged to use terms such as 'him' or 'her'. e.g. "They left 5 minutes ago" rather than "He left 5 minutes ago"....as there are 50 people on it of varying levels, no one says anything but I'd imagine 95% of people are thinking the same thing. The world is changing....I don't understand why the yoof of today would happily pay a fiver to have two pints of semi-skimmed delivered by Deliveroo. I think at some point the world will self implode. Anyway, on the topic it's definitely his freedom of choice to come out.

It’d be typical to get fired for using the wrong pronoun. If they kept it to he, she and shim it’d be a lot easier.

If you have the time to read and believe in what you read in the list you sent me, best of luck. If you give those intellectual bastions of free speech, that is the Hub and Cosmopolitan; good luck indeed. In fact I wish you had not told me!
