There is no environmental benefit. Mining of cobalt and lithium for batteries(for all your gadgets) is destroying swathes of land in Africa mainly using child labour(remember the silly **** "you stole my childhood"). They are dangerous to charge, especially quickly(just ask Potters Bar bus station) and recycling and disposal is dangerous also and most old batteries end up in landfill. After a few years when the batteries are fúcked it will cost you more for replacements than a new car as any garage undertaking work on electric vehicles has to spend a fortune on new safety equipment and insurance(most garages wont touch electric cars). Added to which 60% of the electricity used to charge them is still produced by coal. The amount of green house gasses emitted during the production of electric cars is more then my stinky old diesel will produce in the next 20 years(except when I burn the home made stuff). If you want an alternative go hybrid. I saw a test a while ago where someone tried to drive the length of the UK, but at every charging station there was a queue and they waited for hours to charge and the journey ended up taking 27 hours.

You know how annoying it is when the person in front of you at the pump, goes in to pay, and decides to do a weeks shopping as well? Multiply that many times when you crawl onto the forecourt and find a queue waiting for the recharging point. And there will be somebody saying " purlease can I go next"? Got an urgent hair appointment. Its gonna happen. The cars may be ready, but the infrastructure is not.

I like the idea of an electric car but neither the infrastructure nor the technology is there yet to make it viable. I'm largely home based for work these days but every now and then I have to drive a couple of hundred miles to our head office. I generally stay over but our office has no charging points and the hotel we get put up in only has one, so you can't rely on getting access to it. Even the most efficient electric cars would need a supplementary charge to get there and back so it just wouldn't work.

Because the Hermans like to think they are greenies there is a huge shortage of public charging points. One local B&Q type shop put a load in their carpark taking up normal spaces and they were full all the time so people went to another store down the road, they didn't last long as usual it's great to be green unless it costs you money. Some of the ones in Munich you have to pay for and you have only 30 minutes move your car after your charging time is finished, this was done to stop people parking there all day as an all day charge is as much as normal parking charges.

no need for fibs Although coal is still the world’s leading source of electricity, it accounted for less than two percent of electricity generation in the UK in 2020. https://www.statista.com/topics/4936/electricity-production-in-the-united-kingdom-uk/#topicHeader__wrapper

Charging the car at home could become very entertaining in the plethora of terraced streets in this country. I live at number 69 in my street the nearest I have got to my house in my car this week is number 61.

Especially and additionally for those who live on busy streets with double yellow lines outside their houses.

My Brother in law used to live in Wycliffe Road more than ten years ago and thought he was doing well if he could park within two streets of his house! "You're gonna need a longer cable"

Apparently 1% of cars in America are electric and owners have been asked not to charge them at peak times because the system might not cope! So Practical
