Not much interest on here clearly.

Anyone going to the game tonight or will I be on my own with my son?

It's a 7.45pm kick-off against the local championship team managed by Steve Bruce. Should be a sell-out in the away end at least. Interested to see the new lads in action although as we all know, pre-season means nothing.

2 of us will be there. WBA fans not happy with Bruce and don't expect him to last until Xmas. In their last game they lost 0-2 to Stevenage.

I'm going to choose to not read to much into a pre season game as it was poor.

Impressed with McWilliams 1st half and Appere. Guthrie and Shearing and Odimayo decent. No-one else cane out well.

Looking at that team sheet we look still look a few players short of a decent squad.

As already said Guthrie looked ok but didn’t seem as assured without Horsfall. McWilliams played well and Sowerby did ok too. Odomayo started ok but faded as game wore on. Appete showed some nice touches and fed Pinnick with a chance where we were unlucky not to score. Aside from that we looked poor. Maxted a liability, could easily have cost us a further two goals. No sign of any playmaker midfielder which left the strikers feeding off scraps. Think Hilton touched the ball 3 or 4 times and missed a good chance. Hoskins ran around a lot and again failed to beat the first man with his corner. Crying out for an Eppiah style player, don’t see any flair in that team. Admittedly we won’t be playing a Championship side each week and it was just a friendly but I was expecting a better showing than that

So we are not as good as Stevenage. In the first half WBA did not come close to scoring and the only scares were of our own making like the early weak header back to Maxted then him nearly losing the ball to their player. Guthrie and Sherring looked sound, Odimayo had a good first half and Haynes did ok. After not threatening in the opening 25 minutes we had a couple of decent moves and came closest to scoring when Pinnock's shot was headed over the bar.
The second half was a totally different story as we were outplayed and I can only recall us getting into their penalty area once when Hilton blazed over. Hilton had little service and we suffered from too many misplaced passes. Strange that Burge did not come on as I was expecting each GK to play 45 minutes, perhaps he will play the full game against Luton.
