As we are only about 48 hours from kick off we had better get this started. Hartlepool have had a poor start to the season losing on the opening day 0-4 at Walsall ('pool fans said it could easily have been 7 or Cool, followed by a 0-0 home draw with AFC Wimbledon and another 0-4 reverse last night at Blackburn. So no goals scored in their first 3 games and their fans admit that they are lightweight up front.
They have an awful record here with just 1 win (1969-70) from 34 visits with 9 draws and 24 home wins so what could possibly go wrong?.
5 referees were promoted to the EFL this season and we have already have had 2 for our first 2 games in which we have only received 2 yellow cards, McWilliams and Haynes. On Saturday we have another newcomer in Sunny Gill a south asian referee and the first since his father retired in 2010,surely he cannot be any worse than the Colchester ref.
I doubt that we will see much change from the Grimsby line up but possibly Fox did enough against Wycombe for a starting place, if so we may play an extra midfielder with Hoskins and Pinnock playing either side of Hylton. Bowie did well when he played the second half last week but on Tuesday he have away possession on several occasions one which lead to Wycombe's second goal so I think he may have to make do with a place on the bench. Having not heard of any injuries to either Sherring or Sowerby I assume they were both rested on Tuesday and will return.
Anything other than a win must be regarded as points dropped but I am not expecting that to happen.

It will be hot but us southeners are more used to it than those northerners, does the sun ever shine at Hartlepool?. Conditions to our liking, with the sun on his back Sam will be unstoppable.

does the sun ever shine at Hartlepool?

I work in Hartlepool quite a bit and without being bothered to produce any links to proper evidence, it does seem to be quite a sunny place. Rarely warm, but very often sunny. As a former geography teacher, I could go on about rain shadows and the effects of coastal breezes, can't be bothered this early in the morning. It's certainly sunnier than living in the Peninnes. Although, I don't think I have seen a cloud in the last four weeks, but I suspect that will change on Monday when the white cliffs appear on the horizon.

No idea, but its a better place than Peterborough. The local residents aren't always very clever when it comes to voting - Google Hangus the Monkey and bye election results for more details.

OAP beat me to the preview for this one and has pretty much said it all, Hartlepool have had a poor start to the season, have a poor record at Sixfields, and are generally in a slump.

To go with their winless start to this season they actually failed to win any of their last nine games last season either, a run which was started by our 2-0 win at Sixfields in the corresponding fixture in March. 5673 saw Sam Hoskins and Chanka Zimba goals secure us the three points. Hoskins also scored in the defeat at Victoria Park earlier in the last campaign.

The only other thing to mention is that Paul Hartley is the manager of Hartley Paul.....sorry Hartlepool! He joined in the summer after a successful stint in charge of Cove Rangers taking them from the fourth to the second tier of Scottish football via two promotions in three seasons.

So you know how these days refs will call a game off, or stop one mid stride if the weather turns nasty and it rains or hails a bit hard, or stop a game if a drone goes over, or  declare a pitch unfit because its frosty or a bit bumpy, all on the grounds of it being hazardous?
Well just how hot does it need to get before that's also considered dangerous for the players?

Far point but lately it seems to have been hotter late afternoon, early evening so the old saying of mad dogs etc seems to have shifted by about 6 hours - personally I blame Brexit 😂
