I’m not sure if the 4-3-3 will work as well at home as it did at Bradford. Hoskins surely has to come back in and Bowie surely will hold on to the centre forward role. But given his display of passing when picking the ball up in deeper positions, perhaps try Louis more withdrawn centrally in a 4-2-3-1 with Hoskins and Pinnock wide. Bit harsh to leave Fox out though.

Don't do dry humour do you? Oh and will you be there? Were you at Gillingham or Bradford? Will you be at Harrogate...or is supporting the Cobblers for you, sitting behind a keyboard, virtue signalling and back slapping with your pals?

Thank you for sharing.
Shocking stats (on our doorstep) but not surprising in a way considering how much hard working folk are struggling. Any of us still in a position to enjoy the ‘luxury’ of attending football matches are lucky.
Just dropped 10 of the requested selection boxes off. Not sure if they have regular collections but wasn’t that much stuff there, so hope it gets a boost on match day and the next couple of weeks.
Well done to those at the club behind the initiative. Hard times for so many and not just the ‘scratch card’ generation.

I was going to pop to Morrisons at lunchtime but got held up with work. I'll certainly be taking a bag of stuff to drop off on my way to the game on Saturday though. As you say, those of us fortunate enough to be able to fritter away cash on football matches don't realise how good we have it in comparison to others who struggle to put food on the table, much less afford luxuries for Christmas.

Dear London Cobbler

Don’t give up on us - I quite enjoy your posts, you just have to ignore the jibes you may get on here from the self righteous moralists. Don’t let the blighters get you down. I have assumed for some time that you only attend few games! Perhaps you ought to reconsider your decision to delete your account and continue to defend your corner!

Was in the ticket office when you rolled up with the ‘look a like’ Cadbury Selection Boxes.
I personally donated 6 tins of Mulligatawny Hz Soup!! Luxury of attending a Cobblers match Roll Eyes ,  a high % of those on Jim’s coach are very young teenagers bankrolled by Mum out of the way on a Saturday preferably a long away game!

PS In the cold light of day my comment above might appear superfluous, so apologies.

What side are we playing Sat? Hoskins on the bench! Fox starting, Kioki and Magloire back?

Tranmere are currently in a poor run of form, after winning 5 consecutive games without conceding a goal they have failed to win any of the last 6 (4 draws and 2 defeats). In our 21 home fixtures we have 11 wins, 5 draws and 5 defeats so they have left with some points from about half of their visits.
Tranmere's strength has been their defence as they have only conceded 16 goals in their 19 games (only Orient have conceded less) and only 5 times conceded more than once with 9 clean sheets. However, both of their first choice centre backs, Turnbull and Symeu, are serving 3 match suspensions so it is probably a good time to be playing them. Their problem lies with the attack that has only scored 19 goals (compared to our 34) and they have failed to score 6 times and only 4 times scored more than once (we have scored 2 goals or more in 13 of our 19 games)
As for our team I think Hoskins will start as JB is unlikely to leave our top scorer on the bench so Appere or Fox will be dropped to the bench. I think this will be our only change as Koiki and Magloire are not expected to be ready. After taking only 2 points from our last 3 home games we need to get our home form back on track and bring our Bradford form home.

I should also have said that after losing 3 of their first 4 away games Tranmere are unbeaten in their last 5 (winning 3 and drawing 2). In their 9 away games they have won 3, drawn 3 and lost 3 with a 7-7 goal record so mainly low scoring games. They won at Salford, Walsall and Sutton, drew at Hartlepool, Harrogate and Swindon and lost at Mansfield, Newport County and Leyton Orient and the last 2 of those games are the only times they have conceded 2 goals.

West Stand has done the current form side of things but here's my take on Saturdays game......

Jon Brady will take charge of his 100th Cobblers game as The Cobblers entertain Tranmere Rovers. Rovers are currently stuttering along in 12th place in the league, seven wins and seven defeats from their league campaign thus far. They have only scored 19 league goals, but defensively their 16 conceded means only league leaders Leyton Orient have shipped fewer.

We come across a fair few teams who have had a spell in non-league circles, Rovers are no exception, back to back relegations in 2014 and 2015 saw them slide from League 1 into the National League where they remained for three seasons before back to back promotions took them back up to League 1. They were however relegated back to league 2 in the Covid curtailed season and are now in their third season back at this level with 7th and 9th placed finishes in the past two campaigns.

Nicky Mellon returned for a second spell in charge of the club. After first managing for just short of 200 games he headed north of the border to take charge of Dundee United. A less than productive spell saw him lose more games than he won and he is now back at Prenton Park having taken over from the previous incumbent, our old friend Keith Hill.
Second time around this will be his 80th game in charge, he has 33 wins and 25 defeats to show for his efforts this time.

Squad-wise their League top scoring charts are topped by three players who each have four goals. Kane Hemmings joined after a decent spell at Burton, midfielder Josh Hawkes failed to make the grade at Sunderland before a move to the north-west and forward Elliott Nevitt was a latecomer to the professional game only making his league debut last season at the age of 24. Hemmings and Hawkes are both doubtful for this game due to illness.

Cobblers connections in Paul Lewis who joined us in 2021 from Tranmere before rejoining them this year after making 37 league starts for us and scoring six goals. Jordan Turnbull is also in the Rovers ranks but he also misses this game through suspension after picking up a red card in the draw at Swindon three weeks ago.

Head to head is pretty even, I don't believe that Tranmere played in the Southern League so i'm hoping that we do indeed lead the H2H with 17 wins to their 15 and there have been 12 draws. Rovers last victory at Sixfields was in 2006 when they won 3-1, Scott McGleish netting the Cobblers goal. Since then they have drawn two and lost three of their subsequent visits. The last of those came in March of this year when two Fraser Horsfall goals and another from Mitch Pinnock saw us leading 3-0 before they pulled a couple of goals back in the last fifteen minutes. A near full house crowd of 7379 were on hand to witness the thriller. That completed a league double to go along with our 2-0 win at Prenton Park in October 21, goals from Etete and a Hoskins penalty.

Its Will Finnie who is down to be the man in the middle for Saturdays game. A fourth season on the league list for him but not a name that I had come across before. A look back through the stats reveals that he has never reffed a Cobblers League game before, although he did take charge of our Trophy game at Portsmouth back in December 2019, a game we lost 2-1. He took charge of both Rovers fixtures with Sutton in the League last season, they won one and drew the other. So far this season he has shown 52 yellow cards and one red in his 16 games.
