Watched all the show, excellent production, my wife works at Weston Favell Academy so she was pleased about that bit  Grin A lot of artistic licence but that's fair enough.

Got a very good write up in the Guardian - not one political message which was refreshing; wouldn't suit Bingers tho'!

I really enjoyed it and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive so hopefully there will be a second series.

Apart from the fact you may not have liked the humour, I’d imagine the inaccuracies of factual timings and events struck a chord with your statistical OCD.  Grin

My favourite bits were definitely the references to the local accent, especially the match day announcer.
Plus anything that features the Cobblers is welcome.
I’m guessing the reference to a Milk Cup QF was to capture our title winning season in one game.

You're correct. The singing of shoe Army in the 80's. I saw every game of the Championship season, home and away, that wasn't sung at that time. They mentioned Richard Hill but everybody else was fictitious. Why?  Also, Carr was a hero and Alan would have earned great kudos from being his son, not derision. Sloppy work.

I agree it’s hard to overlook things you know aren’t correct, even though the common viewer will be oblivious. The timing of the stand being condemned, the fact we weren’t bottom of the league, I did laugh and say we wouldn’t be chanting “shoe army”. Most of all Shaun Dooley can’t do a Geordie accent but it’s his dad and artistic licence. I’m assuming it was a stab at Derek Banks but it could have equally have been to introduce some diversity.
I’d imagine he was ridiculed at school but not because of who his dad is!

I don’t think it was belly laugh funny but enjoyed it for what it was. Not sure on his status as self proclaimed ‘national treasure’.

Welcome To Wrexham and Sunderland Til I Die have both had two series, now the Cobblers are getting a second series too!

It's somehow appropriate that ours is a sitcom...

ITV will have had a beady eye on the advertising revenues generated by the first series and negotiations with the main man (Alan Carr) to front up some of their other shows. You can only believe he's seen as very popular by media organisations given he seems to be on all over the place.

Me too Marvo, I can confirm Shoe Army was never mentioned let alone sung.

I think that's rather harsh. It's a bit of an old style sitcom, which is in keeping with the era in which it is set.

Granted, I didn't think the second series was as good as the first, but it was an amiable enough watch.
