…..but you have to answer yourself honesty - is it because he’s an overpaid football commentator paid with our taxes- or is it because you disagree with what he says.

The former IMO has some validity for debate but if it’s simply the latter it would suggest had he spouted right wing bilge it would be acceptable.

Personally I think the BBC has gone significantly off the rails - (probably not in the way you think) but for me they are so afraid of being defunded they don’t anymore report on the frightening details of this corrupt and incompetent government.

Peter, here’s one for you, all governments are to some degree as you described.
The thoughts of a Labour government fill me with dread.

Right wingers tend to like freedoms, just not freedom of speech if it is the "wrong" speech or freedom of movement of people if it is the "wrong" people.

So you think it’s OK to house 15000 Albanians here so they can run sex trafficking and drugs cartel?
I have no problem with genuine asylum seekers, Ukraine, Syria etc but Albania?

An interesting employment law matter arises here.

Do Lineker and now Ian Wright still get paid for tomorrow nights presenting of Match of The Day (even though neither will be involved)? If they do, isn't that evidence of their employment by the BBC (and therefore should be subjected to the full PAYE system)?

We need clarity as to whether Lineker volunteered not to attend or was told not to attend. Wright has volunteered not to attend.

If they don't get paid they can claim to be self employed.

The law (of course) looks at other evidence as well as this to make these rulings.

Neither will be missed (but that's another topic).

There is, of course, an on-going tax case between Lineker and HMR&C.

Seriously though - I get you fear a left of centre government but can you really support this shower or corrupt incompetents - it's so painfully obvious that the "Stop the boats" campaign is the last resort of a busted flush - the conservatives cannot fight the general election based on any of their existing policies of the last 12 years because they have pretty much all been a disaster.

.....back on topic though - yes of course the vast majority of people want a sensible immigration policy and to stop the small boat traffic - but the nonsense being proposed is simply soundbites to appeal to disenfranchised voters.

The solution - a proper asylum processing centres in Europe and a returns policy for those who slip the net illegally - sadly the Brexit disaster makes both of those significantly harder to achieve.

Perhaps you should take a word of advice from Rod - conservative all his voting life but sees how they have f***ed everything up and perhaps time to give someone else a chance........

You can't cherry pick mate - Fiona Bruce (BBC) - oh well Stanley Johnson's wife beating leaving his wife in hospital was just a one off - should she go as well?

Cancel Culture at its worst.
The biased right wing press refuse to criticise this shambles of a Govt so someone has to stand up to them.
God bless you Mr Lineker.
It a good job for the corrupt and inept Tories that BJ got his mate a job as the top dog in The BBC - in payment for services rendered.
The BBC is a disgrace - it’s now joined the ranks of The Mail as the true enemy of the people.

I wonder why former Conservative MP and current director general Tim Davie decided to get rid of Gary Linekar. It sure is a mystery. Must be his leftie bias.

Maybe they'll bring Richard Keys and Andy Gray in.

1. When was Tim Davie a Tory MP?

2. Lineker has repeatedly breached the Impartiality clause of his contract. He isn't "leftie" unless avoiding, possibly evading your taxes is a leftie trait.

To replace Lineker & Chums on MOTD;

Harry Enfield & Paul Whitehouse could spoof the Buddy Buddy style of the programme as well as some of the character traits.

Spot on Peter.
But not something that will ever happen with this rotten Government as it wouldn’t play well with the Daily Mail reading supporters and their electoral success is totally dependent on them finding another Brexit to split the electorate with.
I agree with Manny - “drain the swamp”. Get rid of every Tory that has been responsible for this country going to the dogs in the last 13 years. They can blame asylum seekers as much as they like - anyone with 1/2 a brain knows our problems are not due to 40k desperate people in some little boats!

No outrage over Fiona Bruce defending Stanley Johnson because he only broke his wife's nose once?
No outrage of them cancelling the last of Attenborough's new series because it may upset the Tory snowflakes.

With regards to the topic in question I have an interesting perspective. The same policy about arriving on boats is in force in Australia. One of my colleagues was born in Australia to Vietnamese parents one of whom arrived by boat. His brother died on the trip over and he very much supports the policy. According to my colleague the exploitation, misery and death peddled by the traffickers on the boat people is too high a price to pay, especially as many of them are children. His grandparents were relatively rich in Vietnam and owned a jewellers, it took every penny they had to send them via the traffickers and they never recovered from the death of his uncle. Since the policy was introduced the number of people attempting the trip has fallen considerably.

Make of that what you will, but his view is if you support a moderate approach you support the traffickers and the consequences of their actions.
