While we are in a quiet period I thought it would be interesting to start this thread. From the time you started watching our beloved team which players would you select as the best or given you most pleasure, not including loan players or players who have since gone on to better things (Ivan Toney) but in their performances for us.

I may have totally overlooked somebody but this would be my team:-

                                                                                                 Bryan Harvey

Phil Neal                       Terry Branston                                          John Gregory                                  Mike Everitt

                                                                                                 John Kurila
                                                    Richard Hill                                                                          Joe Kiernan

Trevor Morley                                   Cliff Holton                                    Barry Lines

Subs: Chic Brodie, Theo Foley, Frank Rankmore, Billy Best, Frank Large, Martin Smith.

The position I had the most trouble with was left back and went for Mike Everitt because he was part of our team in the top flight (as 6 of my team were), Theo Foley was the better full back but I could not select him in front of Phil Neal.

Referenced in my previous post, I couldn’t leave Benji out of the team/squad, along with Hill, Morley and McGoldrick. Holmes a shoe in, although I’m not sure how this team is gelling so far!
Would have to have seen how good Phil Neal was compared to his Liverpool days or whether he became a totally different player like Toney.

PS you are older than me!  Grin

Are you trying to give us all brain ache?

Here's my seventh or eighth attempt:-

                          Keith Welch

Jason Crowe    John Gregory    Ian Samson    John Frain

Richard Hill    Warren Donald    Shaun McWilliams

Trevor Morley    Ian Benjamin    Martin Smith

Subs:- Mark Bunn, Russell Wilcox, Phil Chard, Roy Hunter, Eddie McGoldrick, Adibayo Akinfenwa, Ricky Holmes

In another ten minutes I'd probably make about eleven changes!! Undecided

I've done this sort of thing a few times and it's so difficult and I've changed my mind so often. But today's off the cuff offering:
                                          Bunn
Jason Crowe           Ray Warburton       Ian Sampson     Danny Jackman

Eddie McGoldrick     Richard Hill           Roy Hunter         Ricky Holmes

                                Trevor Morley   Bobby Barnes

Subs: Liam Roberts, Luke Chambers, Bradley Johnson, Sam Hoskins, Martin Smith, Tony Adcock, Ian Benjamin

I've been following us since 1986/87.

Agree with this team except maybe Sammo in for John Kurila, he was often a red card in waiting.

I could be wrong but I don't remember John Kurila ever being sent off.

Different game, you were unlucky to get a yellow/booking in those days.
I played all of my career without a booking, aside from a game when I played in a Pub League game as a ringer, I had to ask the skipper what my name was... Smiley

Evers, surprised at your choice of Burge as GK as although he was good last season I thought Roberts was better the season before. There was not a single goal Roberts conceded that I thought "he should have done better with that" whereas there was 2 or 3 I would question Burge on.
I went for Harvey because he was outstanding in the season we won promotion to the top flight saving many penalties, 2 in 1 game from England's Terry Paine, and in the process gained us several points that were vital in our promotion.
