I struggle to keep up these days.
So people that are concerned about the inhumane practice of slavery are the ones going to hell. And the ones that want to glorify in the suffering of others are going to the better place upstairs?

Don't forget, it came out of the mouth (well, fingers) of a Tory, so of course that makes sense to him.

LOL

What was he supposed to say....

"Sorry about our historical involvement in the slave trade and that it contributed to a large proportion of our current wealth.  As the Lord has taught us, repent for your past sins and aid those you have sinned against....unless there is a financial crisis in which case deny all knowledge and pretend it never happened."

He could also have said "Look, it says in this book I've got that I'm allowed to keep slaves, I'm even allowed to knock them about a bit, I'm just not allowed to beat them to death. Would you like me to read you the bit about what you should do to your daughtersif they don't scream loud enough to prevent them being raped while I'm at it?"

Until the church stops preaching from such a hateful tome they have no right to act as moral arbiters on anything.

Blimey, if that’s worth £100m they’re going to need a lot more from the preachings and actions of that fairy story.
Maybe they could start by buying us a striker.

That reminds me of the loathsome Tommy Robinson who prepared for an interview with Piers Morgan with a copy of the Koran filled with Post-it notes to mark the nasty things quoted - clearly the halfwit had never read the bible.

Most religions have a basic conduct of behaviour which is necessary for a humane society - they then all unfortunately overstep the mark with the need to control.

You wanna try mixing Muslim and Hindi site labourers together. The fcukers were trying to throw each other off of the scaffolding. I can now add "peace envoy" to my extensive CV.

That's most religions who take a literal definition of how a major power and a world works. If you deeply believe it and someone who deeply believes something different clashes with you, it causes violence. Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and Christian denominations have constantly been at each other throats over 1000s of years.

Anyway, it's a private religious organisation that can do what they want with the money, it's not a public purse. I think wanting to pay back for previous injustices is not exactly against the spirit of the teachings of Jesus, and yes, that website is full of literal vaccine sceptics who hold Bridgen up as a matryr for making deranged statements about very easily disprovable harms. If the BBC is supposed to be biased, god knows what the daily sceptic is.

This sort of thing goes on all around the world, and along with territory is responsible for most conflicts. I could chuck in my African Labourers trying to stab each other, because they were from a different tribe. Still, the level of dislike between India and P@kistan is sufficient for them to point nuclear missiles at each other. And all of the Eastern Europeans absolutely hated Russians. I was thankful that there was no Serbs or Croats there. It was an interesting place to work.

I once worked somewhere where they had a high number of African and Eastern European agency workers in the warehouse. It got so bad they had to plan shift patterns and picking routes to ensure the two groups never crossed paths because if they did a fight would break out.

Mind you, I don't think you can blame religion for that one; they just couldn't tolerate each other!!

It was like the UN on that site. At any one point there would be about 40 agency workers from all over the world. It was chaos trying to find anybody who could speak english, and convey the message to the others. And none of them had any concept of health and safety. The only two that I could rely upon, was one Romanian, and one Albanian. Valentin the Romanian used to run around making "brum brum" noises with his barrow, and Dashe the Albanian used to run around doing Norman Wisdom impressions shouting "Mr Grimsdale" at the top of his voice. And they were the two that I could trust. The rest were at each others throats. And no, I have not made any of that up. That site aged me by a few years!

I worked with an Italian enrolled nurse who couldn't read or write English, she used to do the medications by the colour of the tablets! She used to ask me to do the "blood press" occasionally, took me a day or two to realise she meant "blood pressures". She got her qualification as a reward for long service, hospitals were able to to that sort of thing in the last century
