Even the Ancient Greek Philosophers believed that we are all accountable for past earthly actions. Fair enough I thought. On many a Cobblers match (not all mind) I often muttered a short prayer in search of a favourable outcome. Didn't work all the time but the Club is still functioning in spite of slings and arrows of misfortune! When I worked for a Global Japanese Company I repeated this habit which helped me survive 12 uncomfortable years. I love the moralising you Guys go on about Slavery which was eradicated approx 200 years ago. Talk about Wokists! I reckon some of you would challenge the integrity of the Roman and British Empires to suit your agenda's!

Very few intelligent people believe in a god, it makes no sense. Fairy stories for children, superstition for adults. Therefore I'd say education is probably the only answer. Does anybody remember the Star Trek episode where they tackled the subject of racial hatred when they met with a race that was half white, half black? The difference being which side you were white or black on, left or right. Both thought the other inferior.

Slavery in its many forms continues, to say otherwise is a lie! And there is nothing wrong with being aware or “woke” to the inequality and injustice that surrounds us. Both empires were created to enrich the few at the expense of millions! Can’t argue with that, can you?

I might be about to get a bit heavy here, but I don't think frowning upon slavery makes you a "wokest". For what it's worth, I don't ascribe to the Guardianesque moral hand-wringing over living in a nation that used slave labour in the past, nor do I believe wealthy families today should have to apologise for the actions of their ancestors, nor do I believe reparation payments are necessary or appropriate. Yes, slavery is morally reprehensible by today's standards, the key thing there being "by today's standards". I think society today has an awful habit of viewing history through a contemporary lens. We look at what was normal then and say "that's awful", which it was by our standards, but at the time was just, well, normal. That doesn't make it right, but at the same time it doesn't make the perpetrators evil, they were just operating according to the norms and values of the day. Who knows, in 200 years time the descendents of Henry Ford might find themselves grovelling for forgiveness for their wealth coming from popularising the internal combustion engine and ruining the environment! The point I was making about the bible (or any Abrahamic holy book) though is its validity. While the world has changed immeasurably in the past 2000 years, the Bible hasn't (well not beyond the whims of multiple editors, which itself invalidates it as the word of a supposed god, doesn't it?) While it still offers advice on how to treat your slaves, how can it be a guide to moral behaviour in the modern world? You can't just say, oh, skip that bit, but the rest is still right!

No idea why you are so bitter almost manic in your opinions on here. Furthermore if you cannot appreciate the Macedonian Conquests, The Roman and British Empires and the World wide stability they brought then there is little point in a discussion. You appear to be an engaging character on Cobblers Corner and a different person all together on this thread! Relax a little and look on people as one of your own.

Not at all dear fellow, just responding to your attempt at baiting people in a similar fashion “the biter bit!” And all that 😉

It was ‘acceptable’ to touch up a giggly teenager on the telly less than 50 years ago. Marvo’s Star Trek episode wouldn’t get shown and most of today’s comedians won’t exist in the future. So we are basically left with a world without gender and Michael McIntyre on a Saturday night. It’s political correctness gone mad.

There are certain subjects I think people are fairly safe in moralising about...slavery being one of them. Also when did acknowledging past mistakes and addressing them become "woke".

Theres a lot of programmes that will never be shown again on mainstream TV again. It Aint Half Hot Mum for instance. White men blacked up to play Indians, and BSM Williams calling Mr lah-de-dah Gunner Graham a steaming poofter. Completely different times.

It was not an attempt to bait you at all. Just surprised at your attitude on here compared with for example on Cobblers Corner. That’s your style but is merely my opinion. So no unwise baiting by me on this thread!

Gary Lineker, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will be the next person who is universally respected that Manny decides is the next Satan and needs to be condemned?
I'm going for Carol Voderman. Am I right Manny, is she the devil incarnate?

Come on Siao, play the game properly, I said universally respected. Rather than someone whose wife's business interests invest heavily in north sea oil/gas companies days before new licences are released.

Good shout Dav. Looks out for the great British wildlife, but is of course concerned with protecting the environment worldwide and concerns about climate change. Worst of all, he works for the lefty BBC. Strip him of his CBE!

Morning Bingers, The thing with Carol now is we don’t know what’s real (probably not a lot) and what’s ‘placcy’ as they used to say in the 80s. So, if she is mostly plastic or fibrglass, you might as well get a blow up doll instead, and yes she is indeed a devil, she’s probably sold her soul to him for a few quid after she finished flogging sun life.

I was referring to his questionable performance on Celebrity Gogglebox.
