After our game against Barnsley yesterday, we have our highest ever attendance (35,013) for the first five league matches at Sixfields.
Indeed the average (7,003) of those games is higher than any previous season as far back as 1970/1 at the County Ground, over 50 years ago.
Say what you like about Brady, he is certainly keeping to his promise to put "bums on seats". All the more remarkable given our form. I would imagine the club is very pleased and maybe a tad surprised with the way things are going attendance wise.
Reading up next. I'd expect they'll take their full quota too.

Somehow you have wholly reversed the reference! He promised bums off seats!

No, the club will never go for that. Good idea though.

It is quite a turn up. Brady has made the worst start bar Pat Crerand in League 1 yet attendances are breaking records. Weird but wonderful.

That’s crying out for a graph. Throw in the improving rate of inflation and we are approaching boom time for Britain! What cost of living crisis?! Clearly boosted disproportionately by away fans but I’m sure helped by back to back good seasons and the Brady effect. If the current form continues it’ll be interesting if we can maintain them, although we relish a relegation battle! Mid table obscurity is overrated. Further up the leagues I wonder if Luton and Sheff Utd are enjoying the rewards of their success?

Wouldnt it be funny, if Chelsea, if only temporarily, dropped into their zone?

I wonder if it may be time to discuss reducing the size of the Premiership? The three promoted clubs have one point each from 16 games. It seems evident the gap between the Championship and Premiership is growing, let alone the gap between the elite within the Premiership and the rest. Maybe if it was reduced to say 16 then the lesser clubs would be able to compete having a bigger selection from the pool of players available. I don't know, it feels like we are getting closer to the Scottish game where the title is almost decided before a ball is kicked.

A Super League! The gap is definitely growing.

I'm sure these numbers would be even higher the stadium was bigger. Who says we don't need a bigger stadium?? Build it and they will come.

I sense this will be lumped into the redevelopment thread, where all roads lead….
It’s a debate but not an argument that can be won. Of course we need a bigger ground. Only a few will say we don’t unless we sell it out every game, a seriously flawed argument. I’d imagine that once you get down to the last 1,000 tickets, or the West stand sells out, you are reducing the amount of people willing to turn up. We will have a few games this season where we would have had crowds of 10k+ IMO. I don’t personally want a ground half filled with away fans though. Then when we are mid table league 2 we won’t need it.
No one knows exactly what it would cost to increase the capacity significantly. No one knows how long it would take to pay back. We all know that we have owners that are not interested in doing it because it won’t pay back tomorrow. I personally wouldn’t expand the North. I think the East needs major work to at least replicate the West, along with the South if we want the away money. Anyway, it’s not going to happen.
Be good to see some Sixfields records beaten this season.

I do Dav, I executed numerous large infrastructure deals on stadiums all over the world, the proble isn’t making it happen, that’s always possible, it’s the will to make it happen.

I think it is unlikely that Reading "will take their full quota" of tickets as they only took 644 for a day at the seaside at Blackpool on Saturday. I know it is a much shorter trip but expect fewer would travel here on a Tuesday than would come here on a Saturday and they are not in great form.

Its a difficult one to judge as three weeks ago they took over 1100 to Cambridge on a Monday night for a televised league game..... The club is in turmoil, facing a further points deduction as the owner has not paid the outstanding tax bill, and failed to deposit the required funds to guarantee that wages would be paid this month too.

You do talk some nonsense, what’s the distance between Reading and Blackpool and then Northampton

So Manny did you only read my first sentence? if you had read the second sentence you would see that I stated it was a much shorter trip than going to Blackpool. Perhaps a good idea to read and ingest the full post in future before coming back accusing people of posting nonsense, but you don't usually need an excuse to insult other posters FACT. If they only took 644 on Saturday what makes you think they will take the full allocation of 1390 (more than double) for a shorter trip on a Tuesday night?
