Only 45 points needed to avoid relegation this season so we were effectively safe with 13 games still to play.
Very low number of points to stay up, Burton v lucky.

Over the last few seasons it's a average of 48 to stay up  so not that may less than normal

Anybody cleverer than me who can reveal, which result got us to 45 points and who scored the crucial goal. Thanks.

Tony Springetts injury time equaliser at Oxford gave us a 2-2 draw and that 45th point!

Is the plan to keep him on the bench until we've got 44pts?

If he is the lucky talisman that keeps us up, that will do me, but if the 45 points come after 15 games, he had better stay there.

I don't think Springett has had a chance to go missing in games, he has only started 1 game and his substitute appearances have been short. I would not be surprised to see him back here next season, he has looked bright in his brief cameos and Derby obviously thought he had potential as they took him on loan last season.

Can’t see it, would surely be getting more game time if Brady thought he was good enough for us.

Exactly. I think Ragdoll must have got the wrong end of the stick and thought we were talking about someone else.

Like this stat, got me wondering when we might have been effectively safe/promoted/relegated with more games? I expected 2015-16 promotion to be a similar number, but that was 'only' clinched with seven or eight to go.

We all know jeapordy is rarely far off with the Cobblers, but I would be quite happy for a similar season next time out.

Maybe, or perhaps it's just Brady's preference for wing-backs. I think he likes to have an out-and-out winger like Springett to change things up if the game needs it. If so, any winger might find their game time limited. We need to have at least one "pure" winger as an option, but I don't feel I've seen enough of Springett to form a clear opinion on him.

This is the 3rd season a low points total was enough to ensure survival as last season Cambridge stayed up with 46 points and the season before Fleetwood with an amazingly low 40 points. Prior to that 50 points was the norm.
