When asked about his thoughts for the remainder of the season, Brady mentioned that they are entering their next set of 5 game blocks.

We've completed our 5 set of these. The out comes of those were :

Block 1 : 2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses.
7 points from 15

Block 2 : 2 wins, 0 draws, 3 losses.
6 points from 15

Block 3 : 0 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses.
1 point from 15

Block 4 : 4 wins, 0 draws, 1 loss.
12 points from 15

Block 5 : 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss
10 points from 15

Quite a remarkable change of fortunes after blocks 2 and 3, so a huge well done to all involved.

I've put the reverse fixture results to give an idea of potential levels of difficulties coming up. Based on what we've faced previously, we get our toughest set out of the way next, so if we come through that fairly unscathed, well, who knows.... Strangely you look at that set and have to feel fairly confident of improving results this time round.

Block 6 fixtures :
Wigan H (L 2-1)
Oxford A (W 2-1)
Charlton A n/a
Shrewsbury H (L 1-0)
Portsmouth A (L 3-0)

Block 7 :
Bolton H (L 2-1)
Orient A (D 2-2)
Bristol Rovers H (L 2-1)
Burton A (W 2-0)
Charlton H n/a

Block 8 :
Posh A (W 1-0)
Cambridge A (W 2-1)
Blackpool H (W 2-1)
Wycombe A (L 1-0)
Derby H (L 4-0)

Block 9 :
Reading A (W 3-1)
Port Vale H (L 1-0)
Carlisle H (D 2-2)
Fleetwood A (W 3-0)
Exeter H (W 2-0)

Block 10:
Barnsley A (L 2-1)

I was just about to post about this ha, so thanks for doing the hard work!

It seems like something a lot of managers do, I distinctly remember Appleton at Oxford referring to it when they came 2nd to us in 2016.

I have to be honest, I have never heard of this. And looks like a bean counter has been let loose with a spread sheet. Company meeting at a local hotel room, power point presentation with a white board and laser pen, bottles of water on the table, note pads and bookies pens. And everybody wearing a name tag. Shall we all take a break for coffee and biscuits?
Been to quite a few, and never rated them. Anybody can play with numbers, but it never works for me. The last one that I attended, they hadnt even charged up the laptops, and they were all flat. All presentation and no common sense.

Same words to you pal  Grin Off you trot  Tongue

If they're good enough for our manager, 5 game blocks are good enough for me.

Take an average of 8 points from each of the next 5, and prepare for block 9 to be extended.

How does it work if the target is 9 points from a block of 5 and we win the first 3. Deckchairs out for a couple of weeks?

As silly as it sounds there is probably something in that.

The “blocks” approach is pretty common.

I don't get it. Surely the only game that is important is the next one? I can see setting a target for the next so many games, with consideration to the venue and quality of the opponents but why five? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Looks like sports science physcobabble to me. For starters, is it only league games that count? Why not three, four, six, ten games?

Ultimately if it works for JB and his team then fair enough. I struggle to see the relevance of the start or end of a '5 game block' though.
Although, if the best team in the league in 2016 did it, there must be some benefit.

'One game at a time' is a cliché for a reason!

It is exactly that.

Don’t get too low after a loss and don’t get too high after a win - how are we doing for our aim for this block - it’s a way of managing minds.

I suppose it's the old "managing minutes mantra". The best example in the last 5 game block would be Guthrie, which games he starts and which games he's on the bench or resting.

5 games may also be how far ahead the club scouts the opposition.

Agreed. When asked, he also refers to taking it one game at a time
