I don't think England will be too concerned about losing the final wicket this evening. It will be interesting to see what the bowlers can make the ball do first thing with maybe a bit of dew still about.

England up to their old tricks this morning, going from 290-4 to 325 all out losing 6 wickets for 35 runs. Some very poor batting today, good job Duckett and Pope scored runs. Should be enough for this lot though.

Really poor from the batters today

The bowlers not helped by the weather and being made to bowl spinners for lots of the last session

I do wonder if we had been better coming off and letting the quicks have a go in the morning rather than just letting them chip into the lead with some rather ordinary spin bowling.

Moment Ali has retired from all international cricket not sure after being left out the next series he was getting back in the team

But was certainly a decent player

Sri Lanka - 3rd day, Oval Test.

The worst day of England's summer. Gormless batting and wayward bowling by their standards.

The good news (England and Northants);

Many people still prepared to pay top dollar to attend meaningful games - last Thursday's Quarter Final and the early days of Test Cricket matches throughout the country. Long may it continue.

Fücking love watching Moen bat such a graceful batter and a great all rounder. I get the England need to blood new players but harsh on Ali who for me is still more than good enough to player at the moment.

Indeed. And a nice financial boost for Northants given the T20 crowds have been down on pre-Hundred numbers, although Somerset are entitled to a quarter of those gate receipts apparently.

Also, I believe Northants still receive an income from the E&WCB as Ben Duckett has now established himself as an Test opener and is on a central contract. Forgotten man, Olly Stone also back in the England fold as well. If he could earner a central contract then that could be more money for another ex-Northants Academy player.

I hope that the batters are going to step up as this bowling display is second rate at best.

Trouble is the international class bowlers don't play 50 over xeicket as that's played when the 100 is being played

A weakening of the national side through franchise cricket.

The batting collapse was also significant.

A 300 plus score should have caused some consternation.

True, but at 202 with over half of the overs and eight wickets remaining, I'd have expected quite a few more.
