A new contract offer for Sherring is, of course a certainty.
In addition, I’d offer contracts to Appéré, Burge, Fox, McWilliams, Odimayo, and probably Willis as well.
Lose all this lot and we have lost a massive amount of squad continuity. We also already know they are of good character.
I think some fans are being a bit casual in disregarding the effect massive personnel changes could have on the squad mentality that has built up over the past three seasons. We are already losing two key performers in Leonard and Bowie.
It is, of course, key that we manage players fitness better than we have done, and I think there is evidence that we are already starting to do this and hopefully it will pay dividends next season.
I suspect we'll offer Sherring a contract but he'll explore his options & then move on.

He ain't staying so let's not wait for his answer & get looking for a solid replacement now... Otherwise, we'll be hanging on as per usual til the start of pre-season, only for him to then say no & any half decent replacement will have already be snapped up by someone else by then. Now we know what division we'll be in, the deadline for any contract offers should be by mid June at the latest, earmarking possible replacements in the meantime... Can't be ending up with injury prone crocks as last minute replacements!

If we do it will be the definition of madness.

In a case of redundancy you are given a 30 day consultation process I think players should be given 30 days from when the contract is made to either sign or not7

I thought that players in their last 6 months of contract are free to speak to other clubs. Even if they were not their agents certainly would be testing this out.
If I recall correctly we made Koiki an offer then he was looking for options but as nothing was forthcoming we were his fall back plan on the back of injuries and has barely featured. Short career that is only one bad injury from being shorter still so don’t blame players for trying to get the best deal for them and their family. We have had a succession of players with ability but are injury prone and often at the end of their careers.
Tough call as a manager and recruitment panel

Only when getting rid of 20+ people. But agree, and I think they club in recent years have been good in this regard.

For me personally I would go with the below, focus on retention of the squad and replace the loan signings with either permanent ones or good loan signings again, high turnover of players is always a bad idea and a gamble we cant afford.
But the caveat to this always has to be if better is available and affordable then we have to go for it.
Lee Burge - Offer, I think Saturday proved how we looked far more comfortable with him there, but having said that if there is better out there then you need to go for it. Sam Sherring - Offer but he wont accept Ben Fox - Offer, Always think he adds something different to what we have Louis Appere - Offer unlucky with injuries but there is the potential of a decent player there. Danny Hylton - Release, Nothing to be said Jordan Willis - Short term deal till Jan, Quality player, just needs a decent pre season and assess from there Shaun McWilliams - Offer, Frustrating as he is, this will be his last deal with us if he doesn't fulfil the potential he has. Akin Odimayo - Offer, As he is pretty versatile and comfortable across the whole back 4 and as a wingback, not easy to find that. Ryan Haynes - Release, not quite good enough but did nothing to annoy me. Liam Moore - Short term deal till Jan, Quality player, just needs maybe a decent pre season and assess from there Peter Abimbola - Offer, cant cost much and looks like he could be ok. Dominic Gape - Release, Not played enough but looked decent

Here's a list for anyone who might be interested.
Under Contract:
Tyler Magloire (Summer 2025) Aaron McGowan (Summer 2025) Jack Sowerby (Summer 2025) Jon Guthrie (Summer 2025) Sam Hoskins (Summer 2026) Mitch Pinnock (Summer 2025) Manny Monthe (Summer 2025) Ali Koiki (Summer 2025) Harvey Lintott (Summer 2025) Will Hondermarck (Summer 2025) Patrick Brough (Summer 2025) Max Dyche (Summer 2025)
Josh Tomlinson (Long term contract - length unknown) James Dadge (Contract length unknown)
Out of Contract:
Lee Burge Sam Sherring Ben Fox Louis Appere Danny Hylton Jordan Willis Shaun McWilliams Akin Odimayo Ryan Haynes Liam Moore Peter Abimbola Dominic Gape
Of the 12 contracted for next season 8 are defenders and in my opinion I don’t think there’s a league 2 standard defence there. Would look to actively move on at least half of them

Do you still have the same opinion after today? Honestly, McWilliams and Appere were truly shocking and not L1 players. Burge.. ‘if’ we can find better then go with it…

I’d definitely say bye to Burge. Too many clangers in him and a shocking fitness record for a keeper.
We should have thrown a decent sized contract at Sherring with a sizeable sell on clause. I expect he’s one that we might look back on in a few years and say “what if”.
I’d keep Appere, McWilliams and Odimayo, but could probably cope if most of that list left. Most of them have been sick notes.
Thankfully this was done with two months of the season to spare. Other than Sherring, I wouldn’t offer a deal to any of them.

I think today we got the answer to if JB would be trying to bring Simpson back for next season as he was totally left out of the 18 man squad.
In central defence I expect Sherring will get an offer, we already have Guthrie and a fit again Magloire under contract. I also think we will try to keep Willis.
Full backs McGowan, Koiki and Brough are contracted and I expect Odimayo to get an offer.
Would not be surprised if we tried to ship out Monthe and Lintott.
In midfield McWilliams has not been the same player since his injury and before had added surging forward runs to his game but I think he and Fox to get offers.
GK I would not offer Burge another contract, you cannot have your first choice keeper missing over half of the season and have to play rookies.
Attack Appere works hard but needs to add more goals to his game, JB has been consistently playing him so it would come as no surprise if he was made an offer. It would not surprise me if we tried to bring Springett back next season, quite telling that he was in the squad today and Simpson wasn't. We have only seen brief cameos but he shows promise and could be a useful squad player next season.

Whilst major surgery is not required the players required MUST be quality starters because next season League 1 will be so much stronger and obviously this will require a much larger budget (from somewhere)!
2 new keepers- we can not risk another injury hit Burge
McGowan Odimayo-new contract Guthrie Shedding-priority to try and sign him Maguire Willis-new Koiki Tomlinson Brough
Sowerby Pinnock Hondermarck Wyatt 2 new creative passing midfielders 1 pacy winger
Bowie- at least try and sign him and offer a house in little Scotland (Corby) for his family! THREE new strikers including a target man who can hold a ball up and head a ball like Jayden Stockley
Available for transfer - Hoskins (a great servant but his contribution has dropped off massively in recent months) Monthe, Lintott and Dyche because we have the defensive cover. The budget is needed elsewhere.
A massive job for the management team trying to get the quality in!

Some contracted players need to leave in my opinion - Definitely not hoskins. I'd rather place Koiki and monthe on the transfer list. We need a sturdy up our back line too.

SHERRING will be offered a new contract and could accept, I don't think he is ready for the step up to the championship. A fit again MAGLOIRE will be like having a new signing after he has misses this season and his pace at the back is an asset.
