How many players will be available for this one? Who will get injured during the game? Who will take a knock in the warm-up?

Not many. A couple. Possibly one.

So The Cobblers are on the road again, this time making the 1200 mile round trip to face French Ligue 1 side Lorient.  Scrap that, we're actually travelling to East London to play Leyton Orient....easy mistake to make!!

11th placed Cobblers are up against the 9th placed O's, the London sides rise up the table over the past few weeks took a jolt at Barnsley on Saturday as they fell to their first defeat in eight games. Four home games in the next five gives them a chance to really make a push for an unlikely play-off spot, they currently sit eight points behind 6th placed Stevenage.

That recent run followed a run of a different kind, just one win in 11 in all competitions had left them looking down rather than up, a defeat to Bolton on 23rd December left them sitting in 16th place, with 25 points from 22 games, but 6 wins in 8 has really boosted their points total. They still only sit 18th in the home table with six wins and five defeats, their total of 14 goals scored in 14 games is worse than only three other clubs. Derby though are the last team to win in E10 recording a 3-0 victory back on December 9th.

Joint top league scorers are Ruel Sotiriou and Shaqai Forde with eight apiece. Forde, a 19 year old on loan from Watford has made half his appearances off the bench this season. The O's also boast Joe Piggot in their ranks, the striker has lost his way somewhat after a prolific spell at Wimbledon a few seasons back. He's been used regularly this season appearing 35 times in all competitions but only has four goals to his name.

Richie Wellens is in the hotseat, he has a decent record overall with 47 wins in his 101 games so far. Wellens took over from Kenny Jackett almost two years ago now following a less than impressive short stint at Doncaster.

For a few seasons Leyton Orient held a sign over The Cobblers, the O's couldn't win away from home for toffee unless they were playing at Sixfields! Over the years now though The Cobblers hold the edge with 33 wins to 28 and another 24 draws. We are unbeaten in our last EIGHT league visits to Brisbane Road, Orients last win came in April 2005 courtesy of a 3-2 win and a last minute Lee Steele winner. Since then however we have won five of the eight games played, including that unforgettable 4-0 win in our title winning season of 2015/16 (McDonald, Holmes and Collins 2) as well as a four goal first half blitz in April 2022 (eventually winning 4-2). Our last trip there was altogether less entertaining, a 0-0 draw in October 2022 where we played almost all the second half with 10 men following Ben Fox's red card. Earlier this season the teams drew 2-2 at Sixfields, Kieron Bowie seeing red for the Cobblers and the already mentioned Forde grabbing a stoppage time equaliser in front of 6,193 fans.

Ben Atkinson is the man in the middle for this one, he's a first year EFL ref who likes his cards, 103 yellows and six reds shown in his 21 games thus far. We have not had the pleasure of his company yet but he did referee Orients Trophy defeat at Gillingham back in September, and he didn't endear himself to the O's fans in sending off Forde (he gets another mention) and Brandon Cooper in a 2-1 Gills win.

The 88th minute equaliser and the 97th minute (totally deserved by all accounts) winner for Barnsley on Saturday, was satisfying - should reduce the smugness (or mouthyness from their doughnut fan on the bus into town for the home game) from the Orient fans.

Guessing as usual, Coach & Horses on Leyton High Road will be home fans only.
The excellent Leyton Technical (once Leyton Town Hall) closed down around eighteen months ago, though supposedly re-opening soon - not by tomorrow but probably before anything is done with the East Stand or those taken 'knocks' return!
Hackney Central before then!

A stop off on the way, I highly recommend the Pembury Tavern in Hackney. A pint of best from five points among their other excellent beers.

Yes, been several times. The first time, was a great night - decidedly average the couple of times since.
Love the Cock Tavern around the corner from Hackney Central - brilliant range of ales and real cider. Hackney Tap is also great, though doesn't open until 4pm!

Orient also have 6 players out injured, Happe and Sotiriou both went off on Saturday and will be missing. In 42 games at Orient we have 10 wins, 13 draws and 19 defeats and 5 of those 10 wins have been in our last unbeaten 8 visits. As they have only scored 14 goals in their 14 home games we have the chance to improve our poor run of conceding 22 goals in our last 10 away games, they have also only scored more than 1 home goal in 4 games. They have conceded 19 home goals but 13 of these came in 4 defeats to Portsmouth, Stevenage, Oxford and Derby, so only 6 conceded in the other 10 games. In their 31 games they have a quite impressive 11 clean sheets as opposed to our 6

2 late Barnsley goals ended their run of 8 unbeaten games taking 20 points which included winning 3-0 at Portsmouth and 1-0 at home to Bolton. We have to hope that 1 or 2 of our walking wounded recover to make the squad and it looks like the away support could be about our average for the season of just over 700. Hopefully we can extend our recent impressive record at the O's and come home with some points.

At least that Jordan Graham is out. He could have caused some damage down our right flank.
