Well flying the flag of St George is definitely not racist in my opinion and as a left leaning republican I would always support patriotism - it's the nationalist tendancy that can move more to a racist view - you can love your own country without hating others.

I doubt any of the reasons stipulated here are salient. I saw it celebrated on quite a large scale. By a few of the companies that I do a bit of work with.

The way I see it 5% see the flag as emblematic of all that's wrong with our country, and another 5% worship it and what they think it represents. It's this 10% that make all the noise.
The other 90% have no strong view one way or the other.
