Looks a good signing.

An early prediction, the best pound for pound signing we’ve made this summer…

I wonder if this suggests a move to 3 centre backs with wing backs - I can’t see Guthrie being displaced.

I was thinking someone leaving. Mbete isn't here to fight for a place or warm the bench. Not with his background, his previous loan spells, his own club wanting him developed.

same, but I predict a progression to pep/maresca style inverted CB in midfield with Baldwin/Magloire.

no?

Really? Feedback from other clubs he's been at does appear that way, the opposite to Fosu

TBF, Bolton fan’s thought he has talent but was very raw and was prone to the odd mistake.
I don’t think for one minute this was our first choice.

Looks like a good signing, started out with Brentford and was there until they closed their academy (!) in 2016.

Joined City, and made his professional debut against Wycombe in the League Cup..... will probably make his Cobblers debut against the same team in the same competition.

Has represented England at U15,16,19,20 and U21 levels.

Played in a number of City U21's Trophy games, was sent off against Tranmere in December 2020! Played tow other games for the senior side in 2021-22, appearing as a sub for Cole Palmer in the FA Cup win at Swindon, and coming off the bench to play the last 6 minutes in place of Laporte in a Champions League draw against Sporting Lisbon.

Scored his first senior goal for Bolton in a 5-0 drubbing of MK Dons in February of last year.

So the glowing feedback for Fosu isn't a good thing then?

Leonard was given a new contract last year and they just sold him.

Ali Dia played for Southampton and Bebe played for Manchester United first team, doesn't mean a thing. On that, he plays for for their under 21s , you make it sound likes he's a regular in their first team.

Saying that, I hope it works out, but I agree, does not strike me as a first round pick at all.

A good signing on the face of it. Definitely points to 5-3-2 as we now have an abundance of decent centre backs. Koiki also has the potential to be a threat as a left wing back. There are a few problems with 5-3-2 though: we lack a natural right wing back, we have a shortage of proper defensive midfielders and two of our most creative players in terms of potential (Pinnock and Fosu) don’t really fit in to a 5-3-2 system.

I think Brady still needs to sign another experienced central midfielder and a proper right wing back as a minimum. We can’t rely on the fitness of Sowerby.

Liam Roberts
Bayo
Ricky Holmes...

On the other side - Danny Hylton.

Yes, how I see it too. With Koiki and McCarron both available as LWB and Willis and Baldwin as right sided centre backs I think we might see Hoskins in a RWB role soon. Just need to work out how to get the best from Fosu Pinnock Morton Eaves and Wilson.

As a side note - Guthrie is quietly working his way into my all time Cobblers 11 (started going around the 95/96 season). Absolute quality addition to the Brady era.

Blimey, good find...let's just hope they didn't pull out due to a failed medical!

Bit of a left field shout but I wonder if Mbete couldn’t do a job as a holding midfielder for us. Clearly a problem area in the first two games and we are stacked in central defence. From what I’ve seen he definitely has the attributes, good on the ball, strong, pacy, athletic and would add a physical presence. Obviously this is only based on the little I’ve seen this season, but could at least be worth a try if we continue to flounder.
