Think I might nip along for this one.
The Bingers Boys have a gig in the evening, but we reckon we can do the football and be back in time for a sound check.

Not that it means much but a much changed Tykes side threw away a two goal lead in the last 8 minutes to fall 3-2 at home to Manchester United's U21's tonight in the Trophy.

It will be largely Indie - Oasis, Stone Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Gerry Cinnamon, Pulp and the like. I haven't seen the set list yet, but Younger Boy Bingers only got back from holiday this evening, so there probably isn't one yet. Why not make a weekend of it it, Barnsley then Bingley on Saturday then t'Dales on Sunday, then head home Monday via the Peak. I will get you in for free, can't say fairer than that. In all fairness, it's in a pub, with no entry fee, but I know Comrade Manny likes to get favours from the influential ones in society. I believe in equality, so you are all welcome and I will get you all in for free!

Its a nice 222 mile round trip for Northampton Town as they travel to Oakwell, home of Barnsley FC for game 3 of the League season.
The Tykes have the same loss-win record after two games as ourselves, they have scored 3 and conceded 3 whereas we are 2-2. They lost on opening day at home to Mansfield but won at Lincoln in their next league game. Between those came a penalty shootout win at Wigan in the Carabao Cup, a win which has brought them a home second round tie against Wilders Sheffield United next week. A much changed side lost 3-2 at home against Manchester United U21's on Tuesday night. The opening day attendance at Oakwell was 14,817 and their average home gate for the 23 league games last season was......14,817! How spooky!
Barnsley had one season in the sun in 1997/98 when they played in the Premier League, they actually won 10 of their 38 games but ended up in 19th position and were relegated back to the second tier. Four seasons followed at that level before further relegation to the third and in the last 20 or so years they have bobbed around between League 1 and the Championship, with this now being their third successive season at League 1 level. Last season brought about a sixth placed finish and playoff semi final defeat to Bolton over two legs. The previous season they got the better of Bolton over two legs in the semis before losing to a last minute extra time goal at Wembley which saw Sheffield Wednesdays promotion at the Tykes expense.
Darrell Clarke is the man tasked with bringing back success to the South Yorkshire club, he took over in the summer from Neill Collins. Clarke has had spells in charge of Bristol Rovers, Port Vale, Walsall and Cheltenham.
Top scorer for the past two seasons Devante Cole moved on in the summer to West Brom, Barnsley also lost the former Liverpool youngster Herbie Kane to Huddersfield. Players coming in in the summer include the experienced Conor Hourihane from Derby, Marc Roberts from Birmingham and Matthew Craig on loan from Tottenham. Players to look out for include Max Watters who earned himself a million pound move from Crawley to Cardiff a couple of years back and Sam Cosgrove who is another goalscoring threat for them.
Our paths have not crossed much over the years, with regionalisation of the lower leagues our first league meeting did not come until 1961, there were two FA Cup meetings prior to that though with the Cobblers winning both. Overall we hold the upper hand with 14 wins to their 7, five draws along the way too. We have not lost any of our last five visits to Oakwell. Over 15000 were in attendance at the back end of last season to see Louis Appere equalise in the 90th minute to give us a share of the spoils after Kane had put Barnsley in front. Barnsley had won at Sixfields earlier in the season though, Appere again with a 90th minute goal. No more than a consolation that time though as Styles and Cole goals had given Barnsley a comfortable lead. Prior to that we won there in the EFL Cup, an O'Toole goal in extra time gave us a 2-1 win in the first round. We went on to beat West Brom on pens in the second round before defeat to Man United in the third.
Last season saw the first league meetings in 20 years, New Years Day 2003 was the previous encounter when Barnsley's Chris Lumsdon scored at both ends and Darryn Stamp scored to give us the three points.
As Deepcut has already mentioned, Darren Drysdale will be in the middle for this one. The vastly experienced whistler has been on the league list for 20 years now and we will have seen him numerous times over the years. Last season he handled our home defeat against Portsmouth, and only a few days before he was in charge of Barnsley's home win over Wycombe. 124 yellows and five reds in 34 games last season have been followed up with 9 yellows in two games this season.

Excellent, although it's a pity he didn't pass it on before last weekend, when I could have worn it at the presentation Comrade Jeremy did at my hippy festival. Maybe you can bring your grooming present up to Huddersfield (I recall you like it up there), when we can all meet up for a pre-match drink or two.

Very comprehensive, I enjoy reading them, especially when we're against teams that aren't our 'regular' opponents.

I don't see Barnsley as favourites for this one. They've lost some of their stronger players. Their start has been so-so (like ours). Their manager has been scathing about the performance in their win over Lincoln. I reckon a draw.

Barnsley last won at home on 24th February.
How are our ticket sales going for this game? last season we took 1222 for a "dead rubber" final game of the season.

I'll be there, I assume that it's not live on Sky because of the 1500hrs KO?
