Sixfields turns 30 next month. After decades of false starts we finally had something that looked like a football stadium. It had 4 stands. A roof on each of these stands. Seats. Car parking. Adequate toilets.
And crowds pretty much doubled overnight
From day one stories stared to be told and memories made. From Martin Aldridge and his famous somersault to, well if anybody can remember absolutely anything that happend against Wycombe let me know and I'll edit it in.
But which are YOUR favourite memories? Be they good or bad. After all, a  5-0 home defeat to poxy Bury is just about almost as memorable as, ooooh, beating Brisol Rovers 3-1 in the Play Offs.
So, leave some of your favourite Sixfields memories here and I'll organise 'The LDV Vans Trophy of Sixfields Memories'

Here's a couple of maybe forgotten gems to get you going.

NTFC 3-4 Hereford Utd. October 16th 2010

16 years and a day after Sixfields opened saw the Cobblers 3 nil up thanks to a Leon McKenzie hattrick but then the half time whistle blew. What followed was, well I dunno what it was. But it wern't good.
Obviously Hereford were bottom of the league at the time.

Fash The Bash Greets The Crowd. December 2001

There was a number in the year so of course the club was in financial turmoil but worry not, there a was a saviour on the horizon! John Fashanu and Winners WorldWide
He's going to buy the club. He's definitely going to do it. Look! He's on the pitch telling us so, the crowd are excited for him.
He didn't buy the club.
Awooga.

Oh and p.s this isn't going to descend into a Redevelopment Thread tribute act. You've been warned.

2-2 with Rotherham 2011. The point didn’t matter in the end, but we didn’t know that at the time. Still the all time best pitch invasion.

The Bristol Rovers play off game, still the best atmosphere at Sixfields in its entire history! The Man City game, just how many people could squeeze into the stadium?  And every win over the pish as well 👍

I remember the game against Fulham when a hole was discovered in the pitch near the goal and the game was stopped while it was fixed. I have a feeling we won that game, but can't be sure.

that was my first game at Sixfields. I was in the East stand in what is now the away bit but then it was a bit of a mixture of Fulham and Cobblers

Wasn't that the hole for rugby posts or something, I was at that game.

Remember it well. It was my sons first game. Didn't put him off though, he's still got a season ticket.

The shocking thing for me is the realisation that anyone under the age of 40 won't really remember the County Ground!

I recall the excitement of the new ground. The strange feeling of the first game, feeling more like a carnival than a football game and not particularly enjoying the change, despite the state of the old ground. It must be how the fans of all teams feel when they move to a new ground. 30 years on it definitely feels like home but a very different experience, driven as much by being older and it's not the 80's/90's anymore with £3 the turnstiles and dodging aggro every week.

I have an awful memory but the Oxford survival game ten years ago was memorable and presenting the match ball against Gillingham with Sammo and Hessenthaler as captains, around 1997. I really enjoyed the late beating of P*sh recently.
Both visits of Utd felt exciting but ultimately underwhelming.

I tend to have rose tinted specs of players who we've seen in the Sixfields era more that could bring a bit of excitement. Often flattered to deceive and a Cobbler for a reason!  Asamoah, Low, Bayo and many more.

Larry's swallow dive.
Discovering in one moment that half the West were Man City.
Arriving late, parking up and walking past a burning Tavern.
Any Geema encounter (he needs a big brick).

The shenanigans one evening on the hill, and seeing at close quarters Seamus(?) getting poleaxed with one sickening blow.

Maybe the Trust, but I don't suppose he was very Trust minded.
Perhaps FAB should get one done for him for free.

For me the play off second leg against Bristol Rovers will likely never be beaten.  On a personal level I went through hell to make it to the game but it was one of those moments that made all the hardships worth it.  Outstanding team performance that destroyed a very good Rovers side and easily the best atmosphere there has been at Sixfields.

The other one that has always stood out for me was the 1-3 loss to Man United in the EFL Cup.  Some brief moments where I started to believe a shock could be on the cards when Revell equalised.  Hope quickly extinguished when Smith had a nightmare in goal and Man United brought on Rashford and Ibra of all people!!

I can't remember who we played but I also always remember a game when Sammo was in charge and I think we scored 6?  I just remember it as one of the most complete footballing performances I have seen the Cobblers put in at Sixfields.

I was in the south end of the West on the first row above the concourse for the Rovers play off. Never experienced an atmosphere anything like that night at any other sporting event before or since.

We have only scored 6 goals twice at Sixfields. Harrow Borough in the FA Cup in 2016 and Crewe in the League where we won 6-2 in 2011 so must have been that game. Sammo was sacked the following month!

Yes that works, perhaps together with an engraved line drawing of his silhouette.

Loads of good memories and loads of bad also! The opening game vs Barnet it felt like sitting in the San Siro in the sunshine at the front of the North Stand. Billy Stewart in goal!
The Bristol Rovers play-off game obviously is a stand out memory. Had some great Good Friday night games too with last minute goals, penalty saves (Neal Kitson and the crowd all singing USA USA).
Other random ones that stick out:
Tricky Dicky from Eastenders conducting the official opening  Grin
The fight between Ian Atkins and David Moyes
Larry diving in the snow
The hole in the pitch v Fulham
The 4-2 win over Swansea under Stuart Gray where Poul Hubertz was unplayable
Bradley Johnson's last minute winner against Sc***horpe

Marco Gabbiadini scoring from the halfway line against Cardiff was a sight to behold, the Luton fan in a Saints shirt being escorted from the West Stand, and then spending the rest of the game making rude gestures from the south stand. And a very large gent being asked if he’d ever seen his d1ck by the West stand wags 😂
