Their manager says it was a 'stonewall penalty, absolute stonewall'. So that is end of argument I suppose, if he says it was 'stonewall' then it mattes not what anyone else thinks!!  He also felt it was a free kick to them in the centre of the pitch just before we got the free kick we equalised from and even then that should not have been given as it was not a foul.  So lads and ladesses, I think that sums all that up finally , lets move on!!!

Completely disagree although I understand why you say that & why the ref gave it - if you see the last part of the sequence then yes it looks like he does haul him down but immediately prior to that he is being held and tugged so the correct decision was a foul to us or call it 50-50 and let it go - I think the ref was either blind sighted or only (as in the highlights) saw the last phase.

Agree with this.

We didn’t have much possession, but warranted a decent result.

However a bit like the non goal by Forest Green I think it gave us the 101% motivation to get the equaliser- without the pen I think it would have finished 0-0

It's just a ref trying to make the game about himself, that's all. It happens
"look at me making the tough calls"

When we equalised he took the opportunity to still kick us by booking Brady.

Having said all that give me all that over VAR anytime.

Eaves has been isolated in the last 2 games and when he has won the ball in the air there has not been a team mate close enough to get the second ball. He showed what he is about with his headed goal from McGowan's cross and last night from Pinnock's cross but we are not getting crosses into him. On Saturday and in the first half last we were not committing enough men forward to support him, on one occasion last night one of our players went down the left flank and had nobody to pass to but he won a corner which was the best he could do.

I think at home to a relegation rival on Saturday it will be a different story and he will thrive with support. Very tough night last night for him yesterday, certainly not going to judge his potential based solely on this. Think him, Roberts and Fosu could be a real force to be reckoned with when we set up offensively, but wouldn't expect it every week.

I don’t think it’s as easy to just say we were not committing enough men forward. Playing at home and the way they play Stockport were always going to have the vast majority of possession. Like most teams against this we used a low block and defended deep so even with a lot of the ball there was little to no space for them to play through us, which worked well as we restricted them to pretty much a few long range chances. The problem you have playing this way is when when you win the ball back in transition you have two options, play through the opposition risking giving the ball away high up the pitch or play it long to an isolated striker. We could have kept more players higher up the pitch closer to Eaves so he doesn’t have to hold up the ball as long to bring others into play. This though opens up the space for the opposition to create better chances. Like I said in a previous post this isn’t the type of games where Eaves will do well, if we go behind late and need to throw more men forward then yes but otherwise I would rather see a more mobile forward where we could utilise the channels.

Penalty or not , I think the players reaction convinced the referee he’d fúcked up, his confidence left him and his performance completely unraveled as a result. To be a referee you need a backbone of tungsten and we keep getting served up officials that are entirely too fragile. The question is are they, or does football create an environment that is far too pressurised and so disrespectful that the officials are inevitably going to crack and make dubious decisions as a consequence?

Hey Fenners, your brother says hello.

Yes, we had a reunion on Stockport Station, it'd only been 37 years since our last meeting!!!    Wink

My take on the highlights. It looked a pen but probably only because you don't see the second before the incident. It looked like a rugby tackle.
On our goal it was quite sad to see Magloire get totally ignored after actually being the scorer.  Grin

We played the same 11 players, same 7 subs and same formation in the home game against 20th placed Orient as we did at 9th placed Stockport, and its got us 4 points out of 6.

Does anyone believe we'll done something radical like play two up front in the next game?! More of the same from JB methinks.....can you imagine the furore if he changed everything and we ended up getting what Lincoln got last night at the hands of Crawley?

We created nothing against Orient other than the goal, in fact their keeper did not make a save. Last night other than the goal the only other time we came close to scoring was when Robert’s was so unlucky when his shot rebounded off the post back to their keeper. So only 3 worthwhile efforts in 2 games.
Before last night Crawley had taken 1 point from their last 9 games and conceded 9 goals in the previous 2. If we are not going to be more attack minded against teams like this when will we ever be.
To a certain extent you can understand last nights tactics but Stockport had only 1 win in their last 7 games and created very little as we had so many men behind the ball. It is going to be a rather dull season if we adopt the same tactics against the likes of Crawley.
I doubt there will be much change to the starting 11 but I sincerely hope we are going to be more adventurous as we won’t win many games with so few goal attempts and we could easily have lost to Orient if they had taken their first half chances.

Agreed, we’ve gone from ‘bums off seats’ to ‘grinding out a result’……with our league position and injury woes I guess it’s only to be expected, no matter how uninspiring it all is!

That said, we’ve drawn at Barnsley and Stockport plus we’ve won at Huddersfield….so it’s not all bad is it?

Some very interesting comments from their gaffa. The one that caught my eye was the way he spoke about the ref having to go in for extra training following his performance last time he reffed them…

It was pretty clear to me this was playing on his mind with some of the decisions made throughout the game.

Other than the Wrexham result our away form has been pretty good and our late defeat at Bristol Rovers was from a corner that should have been a goal kick.
Huddersfield are more likely to be promotion contenders than Stockport so I wonder what would have happened last night if we had taken the game to them as we did when taking a 3 goal lead at Huddersfield.

JB made a big point of congratulating Magloire after the game and ensuring that he got the final adulation from the travelling support. Magloire had a huge smile on his face. I suspect that he has been lacking in confidence since his lay off and limited game time since the early part of the season.

As per my review he's only reffed Stockport once before, and that was actually his first ever game as an EFL ref. He booked 8 players (5 from Stockport) in a 2-1 Walsall win. He's only in his mid-twenties so he's probably got a lot of learning to do, regardless of Challinors' comments!
