You can see the the idea moving forward

Eaves up front on his own, Waggers just behind him and Roberts/Fosu either side.

The problem is, I suspect all bar Eaves have potentially already played their best football of their careers.

I'm not convinced he's fully fit. He didn't try to beat the full back for pace at any point. More frustratingly though, he keeps trying to be too clever recently and has nearly cost us a breakaway goal twice in the last few games. It's frustrating. because he beats his man and gets in a good position and rather than passing the ball, he tries to beat another and ends up losing it, often in a dangerous position.

That's more or less exactly what I said on the Blackpool match thread and similar earlier in this thread.

Ditto Boothroyd.

The irony is, if you leave a player up, the opposition rarely chance just leaving one defender on him, so ordinarily, leaving one up generally prevents two opposition bodies in our area.

Yes but at Championship and Prem level. They're still more than good enough for L1

When they finally click, someone is getting a tonking.

Roberts and Fosu both still have potential a grade up IMHO. Waghorn and Eaves are probably "just" decent L1 players

Don't want to fall out with you Evers, but you're making no sense whilst talking bollox at the same time.
And if you were in NGH eye department on Thursday pm, that might have been me you were sat next to in the waiting room  Wink

Not me as my sessions in the eye dept at NGH finished in Sept (2024). All I would say is my opinion differs from your own on the Hoskins/Brady incident.  For me it was a trivial incident and dependent where you sit, so perhaps open to interpretation. All the best all the same!

It was a terrible game. Where we completely matched their level of incompetence. If the theory is that Hoskins spat his dummy out because he was disappointed with himself. I have to completely agree with him.

Different era, but Graham Carr used to leave THREE up.

Dave Gilbert, Warren Donald and Eddie McGoldrick

All small players who would be more use being marked rather than marking someone.

That isn't the theory though is it. Hoskins believes that he is too good to be substituted, ever. This belief was probably strengthened by previous managers who indeed never substituted him, even when a game was crying out for him to be replaced. Brady is the first of our managers to not only substitute Hoskins regularly but also to drop him completely. Brady is going up in my estimation.

As for an employee showing dissent when their employer decides to make a change, that's far from being trivial. It shows lack of respect for the manager and his own colleagues. He's basically saying he thinks he's too good to be replaced and some other person should take the fall. That's cant be good for the wellbeing of the group.

Managers like Bowen and Wilder* are rare to come by! Whether we like it or not Jon Brady is the only recent Manager who can possibly follow in their* footstops!

We should stick with him, as at the moment he is our only hope of survival as a EFL Club!

Hang on, that sounds like you stating an opinion, I thought you only dealt in facts. Wink

Most football managers seem to say that they would expect players to be upset by being substituted.
JB obviously thought enough of Hoskins to put him in the starting eleven, in the first half he looked our most likely goal scorer. JB then decided to make changes in the second half.
Decisions like that are the essence of the managers job, no big deal.

I'd love to know what has changed. Is it psychological, is it injury, is it becoming a father, is it form or the set up of the team? Scoring 50 odd goals in 3 seasons to 1 in 14 or something, including none in the league.
It is an important factor in why we are struggling to score, especially as no-one else seems to be stepping up. We can't rely on one player to nick the wins.
You see a players form massively ebb and flow at any team though.

Brady has only ever waxed lyrical about him, so would imagine any tension is over not being an automatic starter (or getting subbed), which unfortunately the other players aren't particularly helping with via their performances. Maybe he is turning into a bit of a sulker with age.

I think we should mention Cambridge's shirts. I thought it was dreadful, looked like an off white shirt that a dog with dirty paws had walked all over. one of the worst shirts I've seen since Shrewsbury came to the County Ground and a guy near me said their shirts looked "Like a bag of sick" !   Grin

As a team we defend excellently but my main concern was illustrated by our inability in the first 30 minutes of the second half, with the wind, to create and get shots on target!

When was the last game when an opposing goalkeeper got MOM?...............months or years?

How many weeks ago did we play Mansfield?

I agree Rog. I said how awful they looked to the chaps around me. I don't see why teams can't play in their own colours if there is no clash.

The shirts are now marketed as away strip suggesting they will be used for most away games. Where as years ago marketed as a change strip so only used when a clash happened

James Heneghan has published his marks for Saturday's performance and as expected the Back 5 come out top with Sam the best of the rest.

That Cambridge kit looked like one of those plastic wraps car manufacturers put over new models during road trials to make the shape hard to make out.
