Just back from the game.
Hondermarck did alright before getting tugged.
At least someone had a good night.

Horrible defending from Baldwin though. He really is your stereotypical League Two centre-back.
He's f*cking sh*t

Just goes to show football is a game of opinions. As soon as they came on I thought we were done.
Bringing 2 'strikers' on while chasing a game has never felt so deflating. Peg leg and donkey were never going to get near the goal.

Actually thought we played quite well at times especially in the 1st half. I think the own goal decided the match, without that we'd have had something to hang on to 2nd half. All the players put in a real shift even Wilson showed a few nice touches, maybe he will fit better with the calmness that Shaw and Taylor are bringing to the midfield. Not having Eaves up front meant we played more shorter passes but we still failed to get enough balls into the box. The Ref was the most biased homer to be seen for quite a while, I hope he's proud.
So a defeat but as managers everywhere say, "there were some positives to take out of that performance".

Just back from the game.
After our previous outings to Blackpool, Wigan and Rotherham, it's hard to be too downbeat about that performance.
Shaw and Taylor are a decent pairing, TJ, McGowan and Dyche were excellent defensively, special mention to Dyche, I thought he was immense given he's been on loan at Pub FC and was thrown in against one of the divisions more expensive forward lines. Tsanev made a couple of great saves.
Unfortunately, Pinnock is still not a wing back and neither is Odimayo. They cant defend and they can't attack either. Brough with a broken leg would be better.
Hoskins and McGeehan weren't awful but weren't great either.
As for the goals, I think you have to credit Bolton for the first as when do you ever see anyone run that routine so early in a game. They caught us cold. Can't comment too much on Shaws goal for us as I left my specs in the car but his goal for them was a belter. Not sure whether he was trying to sky it or whether he just got his feet mixed up but either way it came as a result of you know who's deficiencies at wing back.
As for their third, a loose pass, a breakaway and a thumping finish. That's what you get from a striker who cost the best part of a million and that's the difference between them and us.
Hondermarck did alright before getting tugged. Eaves missed a decent chance and Wilson, for all the pelters he gets, has some neat and intelligent touches. Fosu was Fosu. Beginning to think for all his talent, he's not going to work.
Overall, we were just as good as Bolton is most departments, just not the key ones. This was light years better than the three previous games I mentioned and whilst a defeat stings, I didn't leave as angry as I did Wigan and Rotherham.
With regard to any last minute acquisitions, yes, of course we need a striker, if not two. But I'd put wing backs ahead of wingers.
Wing backs: Guinness-Walker and McGowan can do a job so TWO strikers with pace are the priority

We are woefully inadequate up front. There is no point distributing a ball to Eaves or Hoskins if they are in that role. Neither of them have a clue what to do with it. We have bolstered the midfield, but as so often it the case, it has shown up a huge frailty up front. Positives are, the midfield and better possession. Tzanev is also looking to me like an obvious first choice keeper to me. Bolton are another luxury side and people have to be realistic about our chances against them. So let's not fall apart just yet.

It's painfully obvious we need some strikers.
The first goal was a well-worked goal by Bolton.
Second, we couldn't really have done much about it. I do feel that if we had gone into halftime with the score at 1-1, it may have been a different result.
The third was a cracking goal.
Overall, we need some attackers, and certain players are not good enough for League 1, but some are. I thought the referee had a good game, too.

That ref was good wasn’t he, easy when you know how.

Eaves and the Imp would be better served in a band. Watching Hoskins run around like a demented dog meant when he did get the ball he just gave it away, his pace has totally gone, as for Eaves what an utter donkey. If Nolan thinks we can stay up with Eaves and the Imp supported by Wilson he’s delusional.

Shaw was obviously trying to put the ball out for a corner but unfortunately put it into his own net. I think that decided the game as the score would still have been 1-1 at 80 minutes and their 3rd goal came from a breakaway as we were chasing an equaliser. If it had still been 1-1 we would have been keeping our shape with men behind the ball to hang onto the point and try and snatch a winner if the opportunity arose.
Another good game for Tzanev and although the defence did pretty well I think we missed Willis who had a very good game at Wycombe.

The main reason for the defeat was the awful support from the sofa, it was as quiet as a mouse.

I thought Sam's closing down of defenders was very decent. It was just that his colleagues weren't backing him up, probably because they'd been told to hold their shape rather than press.

Comments from Bolton supporters think we looked better than a side fighting relegation but lacking much threat up top.

It was quite quiet in the ground as well, until they scored their third... We put them under a lot of pressure, especially in the second half, but without the final-third, end product. They weren't as confident of securing all three points, especially with our second half offensive possession display.

See, a quite believable report from somebody who was there!

At least we have one volunteer for a disgraceful lack of effort in the stands, effectively costing us three points. The support from the sofas around the county was ferocious.
