Going back over the years when we played 2 at the back 1 was dominant in the air (Stuart Robertson, Frank Rankmore etc) the other quick sweeper (John Gregory, Keith McPherson and laterin his career Billy Best). This is how KN wants to play as Wilder did in a 4231 formation but says at the moment he has been forced to play 3 centre backs. With the centre backs who could be here next season obviously Guthrie stands out as the dominant player but who would be the quick player to play alongside him? Odimayo is probably the quickest.

[author=ntfclad link=topic=23785.msg559826#msg559826 date=1742674290] Everyone was s***e today and he wasn’t as bad as McGowan but again his limitations exposed for me, nearly a couple of times they got in behind him including one where he just about got the ball back to Burge, and then obviously the goal none of the centre halves covered themselves in glory. I like him, but I have a nagging doubt he’s just not good enough for L1 at the moment. Hopefully we that changes and he stops letting the ball bounce like today and Barnsley when Keillor Dunn brought it down and fired in their first. [/quote] That’s an over reaction if ever there was one to read. I thought Burge did ok for a start! Roberts in flashes got them worried! Hoskins also did ok. Certainly Berry played ok as did the recently maligned Dyke! Their forwards and most of their team simply were better players on the day and manifestly quicker too. Tough day at the office for some of us.

Guthrie is currently nursing what could be, at his age, a career ending injury. I like Guthrie, but I wouldnt be surprised if we have seen the last of him in a claret shirt.

Burge rushed out and almost caused us to concede. Hoskins did nothing but Roberts did show flashes but that is all - flashes. Who are Berry and Dyke?

Should this guarantee our survival? The majority of our players will be playing for their next contract.

It works for some and not others comrade, the psychology of football is a dark art.

Realistically, the only one worth keeping that isn’t signed up already is Taylor. Hardest job in the summer will be moving on Willis, Baldwin and Eaves. The old guard really did make some terrible decisions.

Let's be fair to JB, the signings he made at the start of the transfer window were not his first choices. The budget was then increased as it was obvious it had been inadequate. By the time Brady could afford some of his preferred signings, those targets had already flown.

Never know. We might have had enough money for Appere and Sherring....

Both Sherring and Appere have missed a chunk of the season through injury. Appere in 11 EFL appearances hasn't scored a goal.

Yeah, that was the point I was alluding to. Potentially worked somewhat in our favour receiving the increased budget later in the window?

Fosu clearly has undoubted quality, at the beginning of the season he glided past people. But then he became such a liability for a lengthy period of the season, either wouldnt pass or would simply give the ball away on every occasion.
One thing we are in need of is real pace in this squad. He is not slow but dosnt have real pace either. Think a natural parting of the ways at the end of the season will occur.

Let big Kev assemble his own squad as he's pretty much had to make do with the majority of Brady's squad since arriving...
Shaw, Taylor, Perry & Costelloe have all been superb additions...
Guarantee Fosu won't be part of next season's squad, but glad he's still got some part to play this season...
