I'm not sure one decent performance from a player at this stage against another side with little to play for is going to sway the mind of the manager one way or another. Also, if you're in the team Saturday you probably know in your heart whether you are being retained or not. Again I don't think a decent performance would get you a contract with another club either so the "shop window" probably doesn't apply either. What would definitely be a factor would be a serious injury so I don't expect players from either side to be throwing themselves about on Saturday. Will be a bit like a pre-season friendly, might be entertaining but I certainly wouldn't read anything into the result of this dead rubber.

Managers like Bowen and Wilder* are rare to come by! Whether we like it or not Jon Brady is the only recent Manager who can possibly follow in their* footstops!

We should stick with him, as at the moment he is our only hope of survival as a EFL Club!

TBH, I agree with all of this John. As I said in my original statement it just depends how professional they are, and whether performance is dependent on what’s in it for them?

Retained list next week?

Yes, would probably have been Monday but as it's a bank holiday, more likely Tuesday...

Let's hope big Kev is as ruthless as he needs to be!

End of season dinner on Sunday evening at the County Ground so a few days after as they’ll probably be a big delicate afterwards.

Bumped into a load of the players in The Trumpet ahead of of last year. All decent lads and happy to chat and get a picture.

Might call in there again on Sunday on the off chance.

And if we can get to 53pts we might overtake Peterboro'. Unless of couse they win their game in hand!

Their game in hand is away to Mansfield tomorrow night, if Peterborough win and we beat Wigan then we stay above Mansfield which is more realistic in my view. I'm going to watch Burton v Wigan tonight on Sky Sports + , should be an interesting match.

After the Crawley game and your 'savage' comments on the retained list, you were probably right. Be interesting to see how Taylor and Costelloe fare!

Taylor & Costelloe are both loans, so will go back to their parent clubs after Saturday anyway...

I'd certainly take both back next season in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises.

I have just watched the Burton v Wigan game where Wigan equalised in the last minute of added time. Wigan had very little up front but were hard to score against so I can see another draw, that's assuming of course our lot can be bothered this week.

I also watched the Burton v Wigan game, haven't watched a euro game all season, only watch England in some games when they reach the euro or world cup finals, would rather watch the EFL.

First half of last nights game was poor, Burton the better side in the second half, Wigan lucky to escape with a point. On Wigan's performance last night we don't have much to worry about, on our performance at Crawley Wigan don't have much to worry about, it should be a cracker.

I have no interest in the Euro games or the Premier League. I watch the Aussie games on TNT and I used to watch the National League games as well but this season they stopped showing them. If they ditch the Aussie games I may well cancel my TNT subscription as I have no interest in any sports other then football and cricket, and they are hopeless at cricket.

I watched the Burton game as well. Although I like to see English teams do well in Europe, I'm not that bothered and am much more interested in the EFL. Who's your prem team? Cheesy

As the thread is up early I may as well add some stats.
Our record against Wigan is awful and there cannot be many worse over a comparable number of games. In 40 games we have just 6 wins with 13 draws and 21 defeats, at home we have 3 wins, 8 draws and 9 defeats. Nobody has scored fewer than Wigan's 39 goals from 45 games but only Birmingham and Wrexham have conceded fewer than their 41 partly due to their excellent GK Sam Tickle. So there has only been a total of 80 goals in their 45 games which again is the lowest in the division, the next being Stevenage with 90, we have 112.

Wigan are unbeaten in their last 7 games and recent results show a lack of goals both ways. Last 9 games won 2, drawn 6 and lost 1 scoring 6 and conceding 5. Last 9 away games won 1, drawn 6 and lost 2 scoring 5 and conceding 6. In both instances a total of 11 goals in 9 games so don't expect a goal fest on Saturday. Their 18 goals conceded in 22 away games is again the lowest in the division and Stevenage and Bristol Rovers are the only teams to have scored fewer away goals.

Wigan have scored more than 1 goal only 9 times (4 away) and failed to score 18 times (9away).
They have conceded more than 1 goal 13 times (6 away) and kept 18 clean sheets (10 away).

This seasons leading scorers are Thelo Aasgard with 9 (17 in all comps) but he has moved to Luton and Dale Taylor 9  (9).

Referee is PETERBOROUGH based Neil Hair who has not been very active this season having only taken charge of 14 games, issuing 60 yellows, 6 reds and awarding 2 penalties.

Home ticket take up is looking good so it would be nice for the team to turn up for this one. Not expecting a classic and 1 goal might decide it either way but if Wigan perform to a similar level that they did at Burton we could add another win to our poor record against them.

Never had a prem team / 2nd team. Have no issue with those that do when they put in the miles and effort to go games but just not the typical Pickering Phipps type that “love”their team but have never been and blab on about it in the pub yet look down on local options like the Cobblers.

Born within sight of County Ground floodlights so that’ll do for me. Don’t watch much in the way of prem football now as it’s too tippy tappy don’t dare to make mistakes now so a bit boring to watch.
