I don't get all the negativity about this. He was a great player for us and has had a very good career so he brings with him a wealth of experience and a love for the club.

Personally I'm keeping my powder dry until we see him play. He was never really quick so he won't miss what he never had. He's racked up 541 appearances so can't have been plagued by injury but then missed a good chunk of last season injured. Is that age catching up with him or just a blip that he's now over?

I don't know, but as it stands that's my only reservation.

Pity we are a couple of years late as we could have lured Luke Chambers back. Feels like that kind of signing.
Assuming he won't be getting paid too much, so could produce a few decent cameos. Ultimately it is a one year deal, so can't do too much damage.

Not sure what it says really, other than it isn't the kind of signing to show we are trying to push on towards the play offs. Maybe more that experienced head around the dressing room.
Maybe we will just view survival as a massive achievement, which it will be in the context of the Cobblers.
I'm a bit surprised as everyone normally gets really excited by the prospect of an ex-signing.

You don't sign a player of the quality of Michael Jacobs everyday.

Like Jacobs Guthrie had a good injury record until last season.

Like Jacobs Guthrie had a good injury record until last season.

One is a solid centre back, leader and club captain who has demonstrated ability at league 1 level over the last few years.

The other a creative attacking player supposedly with a wicked delivery, who has failed to demonstrate his ability at conference and league 2 level of the last couple of years.

Surprisingly the centre back also has more goal contributions than the creative attacking player over the last 2 years despite playing at a higher level!

Well if Dyche decides to leave he has found a ready replacement to constantly slag off.

Its a strange but a good one, we all had high hopes for Roberts last year with very little out of it, good player but cant imagine he had much influence in the dressing room, where I reckon Jacobs will be the sort of addition to Knit the squad together on and off the pitch especially as we have lost McGowan, Sowerby and Pinnock all at the same time.

What’s your judgment based on out of interest?

Is Jacob’s an out going character that everyone looks up to and respects etc? I assume this must be the case based on the comments.

Based on the fact that we scout our players and probably understand all their attributes before signing them, I don't think Nolan wouldn't have touched Roberts or Fosu from the off and Chouchane was found out quickly, I look at G McAllister for Liverpool, he was finished, old and no good, but he had the right mentality and tied the squad together well on and off the pitch.

Not saying Jacobs will work out but he has been around long enough and Nolan only has to pick up the phone to his old managers and team mates to know what he is like.

He's local, cheap (I would hope!) knows the club & staff...

Perhaps he will also help out with the coaching...

But he's not a robust L1 player who will deliver consistently...

Just don't understand why we didn't invite him in next Monday to have a look at him pre season, before offering yet another dubious contract...

Saying that, no doubt he'll offer more than both Wilson & MDD did, but that's a very low benchmark!

I'm fairly sure a player his age is unlikely to come on trial

I just trust that his medical was very thorough, before offering a 12 month contract. We will see by how many games he makes the starting line up.

Reading his interview on NTFC official site - I don't think he's expecting to be making the starting lineup every week.

"I have played at a high level for a long time, I have learned a lot and developed a lot and you learn things as you go along. Hopefully I can help the other players with that, maybe late on in games, using my knowledge and experience at the right time.

"I have spoken to the staff and we know the role I am here to do. It is a different role to 15 years ago but the club knows what I can do and I know what the club needs from me and we are on the same sheet."

Surely we all know he’s not been brought in as a starter. As somebody has already said all squads need depth, and he will offer something different to anyone else we have in the team currently. Nolan has no reason to waste some of the budget (very small I would guess) and a squad space on someone he doesn’t think is up to it in any capacity.

The over reaction to this signing is something else…I’m pleased to see him back for nostalgia is nothing else.

Precisely, but the facts don’t fit in with some people’s agenda so this will undoubtedly be ignored

Pop him in the middle picking passes with some legs and mobility around him. Set pieces give them to him.

Out of interest do you know the last time one of his set pieces led to a goal?

I’ve had a quick look and gave up when I got to 2022.
