Oh get over yourself man.

Where have the figures of £150 a week actually come from? Oh thats it, they were made up by someone on this thread as an example to aid their point on the situation.

In all honesty this is just a bit of fun. The thread that is. If you suddenlt want to start asking serious, legal questions about how the club is run then ask the people who can answer you

Yes but the player you sponsor was already at the club. Surely you can't "sponsor" a player as a condition of that player being signed to the club?

Illegal payments also can involve putting money into a club/person on the condition that a player is signed?

Well if nothing has gone on/going on, then what the hell is actually going on?

We've signed a piss poor complete amateur on a one year deal, worth £150 a week, on the basis of a recommendation. If a trusted source said there is a young player from i.e Norwich City available, then you may take a punt, but to sign a player with no professional training/appearances without seeing him play is unheard of, which is why people are questioning Slowe's signing, because it is not normal. Even a semi-pro club would look at a player before signing him. Which is why I think there must be someone on the inside of the club that cannot be trusted.

Unheard of?  Graham Souness signed Ali Dia at Southampton on the basis of a false phone call alleging that he was George Weah's cousin.  I'm sure there have been others including Harry Redknapp and Man City who've fallen for video portfolios.  And following your argument, what's the difference between this and a club lending a player out on loan and paying all his wages in advance of a permanent move, as Man City are supposed to be doing with Craig Bellamy at Cardiff?

There's a couple of players here who I wouldn't mind chipping in to play somewhere else!

Had the pleasure of sitting next to Alistair and his lady friend for the first 20 mins of yesterdays match.

She was clearly very uninterested and couldn't really understand why he was claiming to be Northampton Town player yet he wasn't playing. He explained that "you can work really hard and not get into the team' and although "he had a really good training session" yesterday with some players suggesting "that i was easily the best in training" he couldn't understand why he wasn't in the team.

To be fair, he was trying to impress his bird, and who hasn't talked crap in order to do that. And I was, to be honest a little starstruck... Kiss

I've noticed in the programme that our hero , Mr Slowe , doesn't have a kit sponsor ,either for home or away kit. How about this ,if we can get 24 people off this board to chip in £5 , the Hotel end message board could be his kit sponsor and then do a draw from all the people who have contributed to do the "meet and greet"and have their photo took with Alistair.
Of course you could buy more than one "share" thus increasing your chances of meeting Alistair and asking him all the questions that have been posted on here in person.

I don't know about sponsoring Slowe, but I'd imagine a lot of people on here would be happy to chip in with a fiver over the summer and have this messageboard sponsor one of the first-team players next season. I know the Hereford forum sponsors a player each season and I think a few other clubs' messageboards do too. Would be a good way for this place to build up a more positive relationship with the club after all the libellous comments/threat of legal action we've seen over the past year.

I'd happily chip in £20 to meet Mr Slowe! But i think player sponsorship would be a good idea for next season, didnt we sponsor Crowe and Williamson before?

What actually happens to these contributions? I've considered sponsoring a player before, but I want it to go to the club....not the player. Am i being naive?

That seems a bit mean to the player, but rest assured he doesn't get a penny.

I've already met Slowe anyway, in the KFC opposite the west stand. It was before the Chesterfield game which was, of course, one week after Liverpool, and having heard the story about the kid giving him a programme and a pen at Anfield and then asking him to go and get other players to sign it, I felt sorry for Slowe to the point where I went and asked him- and Alex Konstantinou who was in there with him- for their autographs. He seemed a relatively normal guy when I was speaking to him so it's pretty strange reading all these Alan Patridge-esque interviews. I'm wondering whether there's actually more than one of him. Grin
